Hi All--

New poster here...I am interested in moving to St Thomas and wanted to see what the job market was like down there. I am open to pretty much anything but my background is in Sales/Marketing/Management, formerly for an IT hardware and software company. I was curious as to what the availability is for working for a company, Hotel, etc in some professional fashion, though I'm pretty open to anything that would sustain a living down there.

Thanks so much!

First of all I would say that you need to save enough money for several, if not more, months of unemployment. Of course there are professional jobs to be found here, they are more difficult to find and secure. Salary wise you will be much lower than the states, unfortunately. Alot of the happenings on island are "word of mouth", whether it be an apt/house rental, car for sale or jobs. Just mentally prepare yourself for a long road....and a slow road 😀

And you will need to be on-island. You will probably not be able to secure such employment from off-island.

Thanks for the replies thus far! I have done a lot of reading and realize that is what is going to have to happen. I'm currently finding a good week or 2 for a pre-move visit to hit the street and talk to people, find out what job I can secure in the short term [waiter, retail, etc] and then go from there.
