OK, I have been here long enough to use up my 1st tank of gas. Where is the best place to refill? I live downtown.
Thanx in advance

Antilles Gas. Which island? Sub Base on St. Thomas and Castle Coakley on St. Croix.

If STX hen Gallows Bay Hardware though their price is about $6 more than going to either of the gas companies on Hess Rd.

Also there is a tank exchange at Home Depot. Nice and easy...

Thanx all - I think I'll buy another one too so I always have a full one for hurricane season! I regret having to leave 2 tanks when I moved but 2 people told me not to put em in the container so they were left with the house.

I saw tanks for about $33 at Plaza Extra earlier today. I didn't think to pick one up to see if it was filled or not though.

The tanks at stores are not filled. Safety/shipping issues. You buy it and then fill it.

In the last year or two Home Depot has reportedly offered a filling/exchange station-- haven't looked for it so can't confirm.

Antilles gas and St. Thomas gas are both at Sub Base in St. Thomas: from town, veer left at the motor vehicles office across from the Pueblo, pass Crown Bay marina, and veer right at the big laundry where the water trucks fill up. At the end of this road, turn right, then immediate left to get to StT gas, or go on straight to the next left and Antilles Gas is on your left. There is a road between the two gas suppliers along the water in Krum Bay too. I think it costs about $20 to fill a 20 pound cylinder.

Take someone with you who already knows where to go. Even with directions, it's not easy to find things in that area. Going at it from the other direction might be easier. Say, if you were leaving the airport heading toward town, just past the Beachcomber and a few other small places, there is a road to the right. (about 1/4 mile from airport). Take that road. It goes uphill and around to the left. As you come down the hill on the other side you are facing Antilles Gas.

My first advice is probably best. Take someone.:)

We just bought a gas grill this evening and need to get the tank filled. I noticed on this post that we can get it filled at "Castle Coakley". Where is this? How much do they charge? Any other recommendations?

Thanks!

Just got a 20 lb tank filled today for $20 at Castle Coakley. On an island map, locate Hovensa, you will see hwy 68 on the northeast edge of Hovensa. Take that about 1/2 mile (or less) going east to St. Croix Gas. It's on the right.

There are two gas companies in this stretch of road almost next door neighbors. Both on the south side of the road. I have used both and could not recommend one over the other for refilling a cylinder.

Another option is Gallows Bay Hardware. They charge around $24.

Perfect advice! Thanks! When we purchased the grill, we didn't realize that a tank didn't come with - until we opened it. But, we purchased one at Cost U Less for $34.99, then went to St Croix Gas to have it filled for $20. Quick and easy - and now we can cook with our gas grill - instead of raising the temperature in the kitchen.

At Cost-U-Less on St Thomas, they have an exchange program. You give them your empty tank (and some $) for a full one. Very convenient.
