Can someone give me a little more information about the quarters? Is the Company Quarter an ok area? Where are the King and Queen Quarters? Is the East Island the best area? What about south shore?

Thank you.

Can you be clearer about what you want? The islands are divided into Estates. These are the boundaries of the old sugar plantations. I live in Estate Betsy's Jewel, for example. If you are asking about safe neighborhood, do a search -- we talk about that ALL THE TIME.

Good Luck.

I'm looking at condos, but I am open to houses. I would like a 2 BR condo on or viewing the water for less than $150K in a good area. I don't know if that is realistic or not. I would like to spend less if I can still find a nice area. just don't know how to gauge the areas and when I see references to the Company or Queen's Quarters it just means nothing to me as far as the island geography. Thanks for your response.

Hello,

Company Street, King and Queens Cross Street is what I am familiar with... they are streets in Christiansted. Not sure if that is what you are refering to.

The East side of the island is in general a nice area with large homes, lots of space, depending on how far east you could be far away from shopping and town. The East End includes places like the Shoys which is high end residential area, you have Tipperary which has large homes... also Seven Hills. Coakley Bay has condos and the Reef area also. The St. Croix Yatch Club is in Teaque Bay. A couple resorts out that way too and the casino on the South-East side. Lots of undeveloped areas also out that way.

The Southshore... There is a moutain ridge running basically down the middle of the east end... the south side of this being lovely but not very developed. Further along its flatter or rolling low hills...you have Hovensa which takes up basically the whole middle of the southern shore. Then you have the west-south shore which is a mixture of commericial areas, government housing developments, densely developed residential areas as well as less developed areas, the university, airport, the dump, nature reserve or protected area...

The way the island is developed its difficult to explain because its not a grid, block, neighborhood, straight forward layout.

If you can give us name of condo group, addresses and areas you might get better information.

Good Luck.

In the MLS listings, you have the option to search by estate and/or quarter. Like East End is divided into East End A and B. Betsy's Jewel is in Northshore B, I believe. To answer Allen's question, Queen is on the northside from about Salt Bay to C'stead. I haven't been able to quite pinpoint King yet. Most realators have maps on their sites and I keep a map open in one window with the mls search in another. I've found that Chris Hanley's site offers the most informative MLS search, giving both the estate and the quarter location of the listing. Using that info, you can get an idea of which estates fall into which quarters and also use the map as a geographic reference. I did find a map that showed the quarters, but I cannot remember where.

The Coldwell Banker site has a map with good estate references. Go to www.coldwellbankervi.com/map.htm

I have a fully furnished two bedroom, two bathroom condo for sale on the north shore in "Condo Row". We have had it for ten years and have never had problems of any kind. Because of circumstances beyond my control, I must sell it with an asking price a quite a bit lower than what you stated. If intersted, let me know and i"ll provide more detailed information.
