Questions for/about Musicians

Hi All

I'm relocating to St. Thomas in Sept. 2012 and I am a solo musician. I play guitar and sing classic rock songs. I'm wondering if there are any musicians out there, or anyone who might know about the "market" for potential work for someone like me in hotels, restaurants, etc.

I've gigged in California, east coast USA and Germany and have a lot of experience. I'm hoping I can stay busy with gigs, but I know that also might be a pipe dream.

Can anyone pass on any insight as to the possibilities?

Thank you so much in advance.

the dave

There are more musicians than gigs here, the resorts are broke and always mess with the performers $. You will need to plan on another income stream. I used to be a self supporting musician my whole life, but here I make stuff and sell it. Transplant bar scene-already crowded, local scene-transplant won't penetrate.

Check the Island Trader (free local paper) for a list of places the have regular music. Many have open mic nights where you can play and get to know other musicians. It's a small island so it is always nice to listen to someone new. There are lots of musicians and most have a 2nd job. Good Luck.

I think This Week St Thomas has a better list for nightly entertainment. I think the website is http://WWW.stthomasthisweek.com.

Not sure if the site has same list as the print version, though.
