Rash from a floating dock...

About a week ago I was at secret harbor for the day and swam out to the floating dock. While out there my stomach rubbed up against the growth that lies below the water line and I felt a little sting, almost like a mosquito bite. Later that night I noticed a sizeable rash around the area of the sting, and now, a week later its still there. The only symptoms is a little itching now and then but i'm a bit worried that it will turn into something worse. So before I go fork over a couple hundred dollars to the clinic I am hoping that someone on here knows something more about it.

Thanks.

Kyle

There are a number of Cnidarian creatures which attach themseves to boats and other underwater venues. You might want to stop by Dockside Books and look at the Paul Humann book "Reef Creatures", although if you are snorkeling a lot, maybe Santa could put it under the tree for you! It has photos and explanations of how their nematocysts (stinging cells) work. Cnidaria is a phylum of stingers!!
