RC Planes on STX

Hello! I was wondering if anybody knows where to go to fly RC airplanes on St.Croix. I'm a beginner, and would feel more comfortable flying in a field away form roads and clear of trees. I know of Renaissance Park, and don't believe that it would be a good area to go to. I heard about people going out to Salt River to fly planes, and was wondering if this is true, and if not where do you go? Thank You!

You might try the large field in front of STX UVI.

I have pondered on this before, and was wondering what the policy for flying planes there, and if its safe there. I would appreciate it if you could let me know any further information on the matter. Thank you for replying so soon! Anyone else out there, please post your ideas, because the problem hasn't been resolved yet. Thank you!

The only problem with UVI is the proximity to the airport. A left downwind for runway 10 puts you over UVI. Even though the traffic pattern altitude is 800 AGL for planes and 300 AGL for helos it can sometimes be confusing to see an RC plane pop into view below you without any warning from ATC.

I have seen people down at camp Arawak flying RC planes. I have an Align T-Rex 450.

I had an idea, no information. You might call UVI and see what they say.

Why not check with Hugh? He used to be the manager at Salt River Marina, but now has a new business just on the east side of Christiansted, on the RHS leaving town, just before the American Legion hall.
The "RC Hanger, Car, and Boat club", or something like that.
I'm sure seeing he's promoting the hobby he would be able to suggest a safe spot.

Where is camp Arawak? I did talk to the owner of the r/c boat plane club place in Gallows, and he said people have been going to the old boy scout camp. Is this place now known as camp Arawak? How do you get to the old boy scout camp, and/or camp Arawak? Thanks!

P.S. I'm flying a fire bird freedom!
