I'm making an offer on a little starter place- a bit of a fixer, so I'm going to need to get some repairs/upgrades done and furnishings right away.

If you have recommendations for reliable licensed and insured electricians, plumbers and home inspectors please post here or PM me.

I'd also love to know your favorite furniture and appliance stores on STT to get deals (even second-hand).

Fingers crossed!

For furniture, check craigslist every day, check the Humane Society's flea market and keep your eyes and ears open for moving sales. When people leave island they rarely take furniture back with them as the cost is prohibitive so there are awesome deals to be had. It never ceases to amaze me that people go out and buy new stuff when they can buy much better second-hand stuff for infinitely less.

I'll put on my thinking cap where plumbers, electricians, etc. are concerned but need to make a couple of calls.

Good luck!

Yes, I'm all for second hand purchases because I know I can get better quality for something the same price as, or lower than, new. And I'm very handy so I can repair, refinish, re-upholster and re-purpose.

I'll need an electrician immediately. Would be great if I could find someone who's reliable and reasonable...small, owner operated.
