Red Hook Villa apartments?

I'd like to know about the immediate area around Red Hook Villa apartments (the building we are considering is right across from the St John ferry).

Take a look at the owner's web site: http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p222020#propertyReviews .

We would be renting this place long term.

We've heard from a few people the area is "sketchy" -- can anyone confirm or deny this?

Much appreciated!

Red Hook Villas is right in the heart, and I do mean HEART of Red Hook. You can't get a better location for walking to restaurants, grocery, banks, bars, marina, and the list goes on. It is one of the most convenient places for the safari bus. You can live there comfortably without a car. Sketchy? I don't think so. Someone may have been asked if they wanted some ganga in the parking lot, or something like that. You may get some noise from the local bars, with music. The pictures of that apartment look beautiful.

Sketchy? No. It's a great place with a few annoyances - ferry noise can at times be a problem but it is dependent on which way the wind is blowing. Maybe music from the bars and occasionally the Ritz. We were very close by up the hill a bit and couldn't figure out who was playing Beach Boy music so loud one night - turns out it WAS the Beach Boys. Cool.

If you have a car make sure a parking space comes with the apartment. It is convenient to the dollar bus route but that way of grocery shopping gets old and Marina Market is way expensive.

Remember to check out the trash removal situation. Forgot to ask this important question for the first couple of places I lived here and without a car the dumpsters are far, far away.

Lock your doors and you will be fine. It's a great place to start.
