Hi,
Can anyone give me any info on the Red Hook area? Is it a decent place to live....etc? Does anyone have an opinion on the best part of the island to live?

Yes it's a decent place to live - have for 14 months now along with countless other folks. Best part - depends on your needs, wishes and point of view.

Lance: Red Hook is like the village where the restaurants, grocery, ferry to St John, etc. are. The entire east end is lovely. Like Paul says, everyone has a favorite area. St Thomas is more heterogeneous than most mainland environments. Usually people pick at first depending on what they can find, then move toward what is most convenient.
