Greetings, all! My name is Steven. I live in Des Moines, IA. I have recently visited St. John, St. Croix, and St. Thomas. I have fallen in love with St. Croix, and have decided to call the beautiful island "home." I have read "The Settler's Handbook," and have gotten tons of useful information off of this Message Board. I will be moving in August, most likely. (After closing on the sale of my house.) I'm coming with a Jeep, a motorcycle, and a few personal effects. I guess I just wanted to introduce myself, and start getting my feelers out. I need to find short-term housing while I take a little more time looking for a permanent bulldog-friendly apartment. I'd like something reasonable to rent, and save $$$ to buy a small house/cottage. (Best case scenario would be to find a Bulldog friendly Studio from the get-go.) I have tons of retail management/hospitality/sales/restaurant-bar management and historic preservation experience. I have posted my resume, and have made as many contacts as I can from here. If anybody has any leads as far as short/long-term housing, and employment contacts, I'd sure appreciate it! I look SO FORWARD to arriving, and meeting my new neighbors! Thanks, Future Friends.

Hi Steven,

I, too, am looking to relocate to St. Croix from Des Moines, IA. Well, Adel to be exact. I have been silently lurking on this message board for a good year or so, soaking up any and all info I can. It's been such a godsend, and I can't thank the good people who take the time to provide such information enough!!!

I'd be interested in learning more about your relocating experience, if you don't mind sharing as you go. I don't have an exact timeframe for when I'd like to make the big move -- when I'm ready, I'm ready! In the meantime, I'm still gleaning all the info I can, making notes, and starting to make preparations. I'm planning to do a PMV in the next couple of months as well.

Keep in touch, and maybe one day we can discuss the trials and tribulations of relocating to "paradise" over a drink or coffee.

Steve,

I am serving in the U.S. Peace Corps in Jamaica. My two year commitment will be up in August. I am considering moving to V.I. I don't want to give up the island life. I am interested in making "friends" before I arrive.
