Renting a house on STX

Good afternoon, everyone.

My husband and I are thinking about moving to St. Croix, but I have one question about renting a house there: Is it typical for landlords to run a credit report? I ask because my credit isn't so good and if a landlord wanted to run our reports, I'd choose to just have my husband's name on the lease alone.

It depends. If you rent from a private landlord (very common here), they will go more by how you look, if you have a job and if you have first, last and one month's deposit. For a $1000 a month rental that would be $3,000. Being able to shell out that amount give the landlord some security. Also, we took a letter from our previous landlord stating that we ALWAYS paid on time.
