Residents: Interesting article on JF's gate policy

I've housesat for numerous homeowners in JF for years and can say, without equivocation, that the vast majority of the guard gate staff are the laziest bunch of mofos I've encountered -- and that's saying something on this island. I have retained a sizable stack of green "temporary passes" which I'm supposed to display in my car window during the period of time that I'm housesitting. These are supposed to be requested by the homeowner and signed off by some HOA guy and restricted for specific dates that you will be residing in JF.

The reason I keep a stack of them in my car is because (at least until this new ID policy), all you had to do was flash some chartreuse green cardboard in the left side of your windshield and they waived you on in. Didn't ask your name, didn't ask the lot number where you were going, didn't write down your licence plate, didn't check the dates on the card to see that it was valid, didn't even check to see that it was, in fact, a JF temporary pass. It had gotten to the point where I didn't even ask homeowners to secure me a pass because (a) it took HOA forever to process them; and (b) the guard staff didn't seem to care anyway. Maybe they're just finally getting serious about being a "guard" gate.

With regard to restricting beach access in private communities like this, I'm no fan of "Senator" Bert, but I see the same thing happening soon with the Grapetree HOA and the old trail which provides access to Jack's and Isaac's.

Best to you all,
IT

Maybe since you house sat numerous times the guards are familiar with both your face and your car.

I was let in the other day with no form of id. Just asked my name and wrote down my license plate number.

Not the point, Alana.

So what is the point, exactly?

Um, that the guard shack workers are lazy and not doing their job?

So you complain and criticize them when the guards are being vigilant and requesting ID's, ect., then complain, again, when they are not?
Oh yeah, I get it, babe!

I rented the downstairs of one of the bigger houses in JF for 7 years. The house was owned by a local, born-here, westindian black lady. The 3 neihboring properties were owned by local black born-here westindians as well. From all the lovely people I got o know during those years in Judiths Fancy a large majority were local black westindians. The perception that JF is "white" is just plain wrong. It is a truly diverse neighborhood.

Please re-read the thread. I NEVER complained about them requesting IDs. I was simply commenting on their heretofore lax practice of admitting non-residents.

Cheers.
