I'm thinking of moving to St. Thomas in the later part of November and was wondering what the job market was like for cooks with 15 + years experience. Also it's been a year and a half since my 2 week stay in St. Thomas, what part of the island (north, south etc.) is the "safest" part of the island? Also if anyone has any advice on moving from the mainland to the island it would be appreciated.

What kind of cusine do you cook? I would go to the Hotel and restaurant web sites and see if they have job lisitngs. If not call them and ask. The restaurant industry is not that stable that they don't need new staff. Turnaround is high everywhere.

Hello,

Opinions differ but I say the northside is a good bet overall. I agree with Iris, contact restaurants and resorts to do some pre-move job searching. You might consider getting a Settlers Handbook so you are more informed about the islands in terms of living here. The book is shown at the top of this page. All the best.

Ah the hot button of which part of the island is safer. For my own safety I will refuse to comment, well screw it, I would say northside you almost can't go wrong, Peterborg is by far the nicest, and the East side is hit or miss,` but with more hits than misses.

If you search some of the olds posts you can read everyone comments. 15+ years of experience as a chef. NO PROBLEM. There are tons of people looking for good chefs. They'll be banging down your door. Enjoy St Thomas and if you need any help let me know.
