Restaurent - STT

Water Islander heading into STT tomorrow to rent a van with main purpose to go to Home Depot and Cost U Less. Got some friends visiting and they want to pile in and go too. So.........this is turning into a "combo" trip of sightseeing/lunch and "monthly-rent-a-car-shopping-day". We don't get off WI much but thought I would take them up to Mountain Top since it's now been restored to its glory. Then, would like to go to restaurent for lunch somewhere on the northside heading from MT in the direction of HD/CUL (spouse doesn't like to back-track.....gotta keep moving forward on the left!). Looking for something medium priced, good food, varied menu (we've got 6 people with different preferences and yes it's been a tough week at times trying to cook to suit everyone). View would be nice but not necessary. Any ideas/recommendations?

Close to CUL is Kokopellis - and just west of there on the highway is Randy's Bistro - both are very good and varied.
There is not too much on the Nside - the Grilleroom at Mahogany Run - the current restaurant at Magens Point - is about all I can think of for lunch food.
You may be able to have lunch at Magens Beach but it will be crowded if any ships are in and it will take luck and persuasion to avoid the entrance fee !
Udder Delite for a welcome stop is worth it but will only stave off the food pangs with tasty drinks.

Thanks EZ! After google-ing and searching VINOW msg board, I'm thinking about Mahogany Run/The Grille. One of our visiting friends is excited about seeing Mahogany Run anyway so that sounds like a perfect fit. I talked to a lady that answered the phone there this morning asking about the dress code. She.........well, wasn't sure and asked me to call back at 11 but she "thought" that men had to wear shirts with collars and probably same for the ladies. Anyone know the dress code for the restaurant?

Men can dine there without collared shirts. I've never known anyone to get turned away for a dress code. Shoes and shirts obviously.

From another forum heads up on the add ons to your dining bill. I understand you'll be charged for extras such as butter, condiments etc. You may want to ask how much something is if you change from the menu item. Your bar bill can be costly so watch the added costs of having alcohol. If money is no object, then have it your way and without the surprise of the extra charges.

The added charge for butter mentioned above may well have been predicated by a gossip type blog written by a STT self appointed expert that likely was a one time incident - it may be standard but I have heard that from no one else ever - the staff is very professional - I had a wonderful and accommodating dinner there just a few months ago and would not hesitate to go back tomorrow.
If Ted is the manager on duty ask him for any special needs - but I think you have made a fine choice , will enjoy it immensely and would be astonished if you found anything amiss with the charges on your bill. It is certainly not a money is no object type restaurant and it would be a disservice to them to assume that attitude.

Another vote for the Grill at Mahogany Run. I'm normally not a salad fan (or any type of healthy food fan :@) ) but their Chop Salad is always just the right mix of components and is perfectly dressed in chipotle ranch. And the sweet potato fries (chips, really)-- yummmmmm.

I have eaten at The Grill Room several times, never had any of the "butter up charges" prices are Island Medium, and I have had dinner in a T-Shirt , shorts and sandals. I would think at lunch time there would be next to no dress code, it is a Golf Course after all. We have been pleased with both the service and food every time.

The Grill Room at MR is a great choice! Good reuben sandwich, great salads, and my husband is partial to the Naked Dogs on pretzel buns! He usually gets 2 and half the kitchen staff comes out to see who this person is who can polish off both of them! If Lisa is at the bar, she'll take good care of you ( you can't miss her, she is the tall - I'm talking 6 feet tall - beautiful blonde). Enjoy!!

Well, thank you all! I can report that we had a wonderful day yesterday. Mountain Top is it's usual stunning view. I like what they've done with the place. MR/The Grille was superior. Food excellent, service excellent, moderately priced and we didn't get charged for extra mayo that one of our UK friends must eat by the quart. Drinks were not any more or less than anywhere else. Frankly, the food was really, really good. We all got different things. One of our friends had the tomato basil soup of the day and would not stop raving about it. I had the Thai Lettuce Wrap with small spinach salad. Spouse is difficult to please and even HE enjoyed the meal, service, table space, everything. Except for the madness at Cost U Less (the usual madness.....nothing out of the ordinary just mobs of people and way more people than I ever see over here on Water Island), it was the most perfect, perfect day. Thanks for all your input!

Glad to hear the Grille Room was a success - CostuLess on Sat. is always a huge crowded shopping event.
