Not a bad idea - but I don't have a group. Wanna split the cost? 🙂

Plus, i already have a big old sailboat up north, listed for sale - may be if it sells I can buy one here 🙂

br1k: What about buying one with a group? Spread around the cost and the use...

I still think the yacht club is your best bet. Try to track down a member and find out when a small race is. Finding two people willing to vouch for you will be incredibly easy, and they have a whole fleet of boats there ranging from Lasers to IC24s (An IC24 is a converted J24 with a longer cockpit and no cabin, amongst other things). I know there are Friday night races that are extremely informal, but they are only for part of the year (and I'm not sure if this is part of it).
