Is anyone else out east having spotty service with either or both? This is beginning to be VERY frustrating....I've reset the main boxes/router, and still have been having issues for weeks now. I've called BBVI, and they state over & over that everything is fine on their end...

We have had very slow service with BBVI for weeks. After several phone calls they came out and replaced a piece of equipment that was "getting rusty" and said everything was fine. It got marginally better but we still have issues and when we call are told the same as Poodle, that "everything is fine" on their end. I give up. They are still the best game in town but it's frustrating when everyone is fed the same party line.

I have been having problems in my location in Dorothea/STT.
I left a message and sent an e-mail regarding the problem but no response as yet from Mon./Tues.
Will try again today as having difficulty sending e-mails, not to mention SLOW, espcially when I have been having to upload files, or just getting on a website.

Must be nice - this morning I have 0.48 download and 0.52 upload!
Earlier in week it was less.
Monday: 0.1 download and 0.27 upload.
Tues. 0.48 download and 0.55 upload.
Makes me crazy!

I know we all hate to hear that the problem is our problem and not the ISP's, but what trouble shooting have you done?

Have you connected your PC directly to BBVI and bypassed your internal network?

Have you tested your speed using another PC to eliminate the possibility something could be wrong with your hardware?

What kind of speed do you get if you connect to a local WiFi hotspot?

If you are using a router with WiFi have you checked to see who else might be connected and perhaps using your bandwidth?

There also utilities that you can download to test the speed on your LAN and if also should download and run inSSIDer if you are using WiFi to be sure you are using a clear channel.

BBVI isn't perfect, but if you gather some facts by testing on your end you will more than likely be able to solve this problem. Several years ago I had a router that for some reason didn't play nice with BBVI. I didn't want to accept the fact because who wants to spend money to replace something when you think it is OK.

If you need help running the problem down send me a PM. I live on the East end so I might be able to help you out.

I do prefer BBVI. I just replaced the router a couple moths ago so that wasn't the problem.

Roosevelt from BBVI was just here addressing my internet speed problem and while it's not where I'd like it to be due to some issues they are having in my location, it is way better than it was. I am thankful for great service from this company and will look forward to the issues being resolved in the future so I can obtain higher speeds. You definitely can't beat the quality of their customer service compared to other companies.

Thanks for the advice Jim Dandy. I really am technically clueless. Will, indeed, pm you, in the future if need arises.

Jim Dandy, THANKS for all your info! You have been more of a help than BBVI, and I really appreciate what you have stated.

Here's a question I have. Keep in mind that I am not a geek, so the question may sound silly, but nonetheless...If there are many users online, does that suck-up the bandwith, and maybe that's why I have a poor connection between 10am & 6pm, every day? This could explain why BBVI keeps saying everything is 'fine on their end'.

Speeds do vary depending on the number of users and what they are doing on line. If in the USVI is on line and streaming movies in HD from Netflix then there is the potential for a slow down. This type of slow down is the result of network congestion from your home all the way to Netflix's servers.

During the day how many Internet users and devices do you have in your home? Is it possible that you or one of your children is running an FTP server during the day? If you don't know what this means perhaps one of your kids does and this could be killing your bandwidth. Has someone hacked into your network and free loading off you?

The timing of your slowdown is strange. Most of the heavy Internet traffic and potential for slowdowns is in the evening when people usually sit down to surf the web and stream movies. Netflix accounts for one third of the traffic on the Internet.

Getting back to your particular problem, my experience with BBVI has been good. While my speed isn't always greater than 9 Mbps it is seldom less than 7Mbps. In my opinion and in talking with BBVI, they have continued to add bandwidth and connections to the WWW as their customer base has increased.

If BBVI can't find your problem on their end then you are going to have to test your end to find where the problem(s) are on your end or at least have empirical test data to rebut their claims that everything is OK on their end.

This includes, your testing your computer, router, network cables and WiFi network and eliminating them as the source of the problem. You also need to be sure that your virus definitions are up to date and your PC isn't running any malware. If your PC is busy being a zombie it has no time to do things you want it to do.
