Where is that?

It's behind Schooner Bay just take the road in between schooner bay and the parking lot on the right.... It's a little bit towards the water on the left hand side....

I'm thinking that you all may be referring to Buccaneer and not Divi. I've heard that Buccaneer has been off WAPA for a while now.

Ouch STXBob, your WAPA bill is $2100/month for a residence!
I could see a generator making financial sense for a business with WAPA bills over $10k/month.
A 100kw monster I'm guessing burns 2gal/hr, or $240/day or $7200/mo.

This may be true but I'd only have to run my generator for approx. 10 hours/day for 5.5 days per week, so my worst case is...

$4.75 x 20 gallons/day (2 gallons/hour x 10 hours) = $95.00
$95/day x 5.5 days/week = $522.50
4 weeks/month = $2090

My WAPA bill hovers around $2000/month. So, when generator maintenance is added to the equation, it is not yet economically feasible to run my business solely on the generator.

BUT IT'S GETTING AWFULLY CLOSE!!!!!

Your estimated fuel usage is low. Looking at the Specs for a 100Kw generator powered by a Detroit Diesel with a 158HP engine 275 Cu In, it uses 4.7 gallons per hour at 50% load, 6.6 gallons at 75% and 8.2 gallons at full load. Fuel cost per month at 75% ($4.75 x 6.6 x 24 x 30 = $22,572 ). That is for 4,752 gallons of fuel monthly so Jamison I doubt that there is that much recycled vegetable oil on St Croix.

In addition if you run a generator 24 x 7 that is 8,760 hours per year. I imagine that every 10,000 hours you would have to rebuild/ overhaul the generator and after a couple of rebuilds replace the entire unit. The base cost of the 100Kw generator referenced above was approx $18K.

WAPA is expensive but self generating using a diesel generator is even more so.

Oh ok, was gonna say that I wouldn't be surprised if they're also running on generators too. When you said Schooner Bay, just figured that you meant Buccaneer.

I've also heard that Diageo was running on their generators too. That one surprises me because I know that there was a lot of work done by WAPA before getting them start up. I can't remember the specific details, but it was significant work. I hope DIageo paid for that initial work done by WAPA, because it would be a shame if not.

No it is DIVI- roaring sound 24/7 in Turner's Hole area! They have been running this obnoxious generator for years! Many, many complaints.

Bucaneer does use generators - big, expensive, fairly quiet generators. It is not a matter of saving $$ (used to be more expensive to run them, don't know about now), but of reliability.
