I'm not sure if this is a different topic than fearful but.....

One of our job responsibilities for our new job is to ensure the security of a very high net (extremely wealthy) person and two small children whenever they are in residence along with their guests (tend to also be very high net and or high profile/celebrity figures) and also over seeing to the security of a high profile luxury estate (of course it has all the latest in security techonology) and while this is only one of the many duties we have our concern is after reading the papers and reading the fearful topic....how easy is our job going to be (one of us has a heavy background in security for high profile people but it has been in Cayman/US/Europe) especially if we do have to interact with local officials from time to time.....any thoughts

Hello Cindy,

This isn't an area I have any experience or knowledge about, guarding people as a job that is, but here are my 2 cents...

If the house is going to be decked out with the latest security technology then it should be all set. The electric goes out from time to time so prepare for that. A couple big guard dogs would help.

To give a jab at your other question... I don't think your job would be much different here than elsewhere (elsewhere being general “normal” conditions not extreme situations). We have celebs visiting quite often and some own property here. I've seen some of them with seemingly no body guards or security and others with 3,4,5 big dudes.

Ok maybe that was only 1 cent rather than 2 ;)... anyhoo hope it helps.

I know on STX there are 24 hour security companies that employ armed guards. I have a friend that does the night shift and I know that he does NOT get paid well. However, for the overnight part, it could be in your best interests to also have someone that "wanders" the property while everyone else is sleeping. It seems that he makes 8-10 per hour...not a bad investment.

The problem with hiring an $8-10 per hour guard is that you do get what you pay for. We hired several of these guards to secure a facility at the airport some time ago and frequently dropped by in the late evening and found them inside watching television or sleeping on the couch in the customer lounge. Despite their presence every night, there were still some thefts from the property and at times we found doors unlocked that should not have been.

If you are able to hire guards who are sincerely interested in performing their duties well and who are also connected to law enforcement officers so that they can get assistance quickly if needed, you would be doing all that you can. There is just always a niggling concern that these people you trust might be casing the property to best know how to instruct their connections to take advantage of weak areas of security. I don't envy you your responsibilities!

You will have no problem with security here if you just kick ass and take names on the first few people who try to mess with you. Be fair, but don't be polite to any crooks. This is a small Island and the word gets arround fast not to mess with you. Have fun.

arron,
maybe a little rough around the edges, but extremely accurate according to mine and some friends of mine experiences. he moved here alittle over 7 years ago and was haviong some minor problems with neighboring folks wandering onto his property to see what all the new comotion was about, and if there was anything good to take from s ome construction and development of the property. well long story short, he got some loud ass barking dogs, that would tackle you and do a great job on you if they caught you, and one very skinny 6 foot fellow just happened to get caught, so when my friend caught up to this cluster of canine and crook he picked up the prowler and promptly threw his ass over a 6 foot chain link back on to his own property. needless to say his neighbors with bad intent don,t come round no mo, and he was applauded by his good natured neighbors. presence is the best defense, loud dogs, aliscenced gun and the will to use it if neccessary will also help.
