It is on Little Priness a little up hill. Currendly there is no development right next to us. A paved street goes up to the lot. There are no numbers (we have lot #62) but we should have brand new propperty markings there if you like to check it out. I hope you will agree that it is good for gardening. People seem to be growing all kinds of stuff around there.

We are still considering the domes. A friend also send us an article on another building in Florida which faired well in all the Hurricans. This one is round but still had a traditional roof. I guess it is the round walls which prevents the wind to push the force on one site of the building. We will be doing lot's more research. First my husband has to find a job on the island. I can't imagine building without overseeing the construction. I grew up around a lot of construction and things do not always go the way you plan. If all goes to plans this should be happening in less than 3 years. I would like to relocate before my oldest becomes of school age. She is 2 1/2 years old now.

We will visit in the meantime and might plant some trees we would like to see mature. I might call on you former ohio guy lol you are the landscaper right?

Iris,

I could recommend quite a few beautiful trees that are native to St. Croix and drought-tolerant.

We too plan to build a dome home on land we now own over the Great Pond. Does anyone know if such homes go against what is allowed in R-1 zoning? I know there is no associations to deal with. Tedd from Michigan

That would be great. If they also carry fruits that is a bonus. We will for sure plant some trees. I don't remember a lot of tall trees on the lot. We will at first only clear what is absolutely nessasary and then go from there. No reason to kill a plant.

I can't imagine that there would be a restriction on the building just because it is a dome. I am not a zoning person. They are changing the zoning laws as we speak I believe. I can only assume that you need to follow the same safty and building standarts traditional home have to follow.

Also by the time your are building current laws might have changed. Off course homeowners associations have their own rules. The area we bought there is not much build yet and the homeowners association is inactive. If we build in the next few years we are unlikey to run into protest by other homeowners. With time that could become an issue.
