Shipping SCUBA tanks

Greetings folks,
In discussing our upcoming relocation to STX, the shipper advised that SCUBA tanks could not be shipped. This would cause us a significant inconvenience and additional expense to sell our current ones stateside and purchase new down there.
Does anyone have better info? Obviously the 100 dive ops down there got their tanks there somehow (unless there is a tank manufacturer there I don't know about:)
My previous understanding was that compressed air cylinders were required to be emptied of air and the valve removed but otherwise were ok to ship.
Your advice is appreciated.
PS...any work down there for a DM/boat capt and an instructor? 😉

I would think twice about the qualifications of a shipper that tells you that you cannot legally ship a cylinder with the valve removed (which you can).

I think they are lazy and do not want to bother.

You can call it a water tank and ship it if they continue to be difficult.

I shipped two down with Flemming. There were in a crate with some other things. Empty and without the valves.

That was my initial impression as well, although with the air and valves removed, the tanks are essentially just weight...cant imagine why that would cause them issues.
Using Bob Lynch...which seem to be professional and competent in my initial communications with them...any red flags I should know about?

Thanks!
