has anyone had any experience either good or bad using Econocaribe of Fleming Transport. We are planning on having some goods shipped down, and are trying to decide which company to use.

Hello Terry,

If you use the search feature in the Forum Tools you will find a few remarks on both. I recall Onika used Econocaribe and had good comments. And several people have used Fleming Transport or Lee Fleming/Managed Freight; Teresa, Steve and others have posted their good remarks. I haven't read any bad comments on either. Do a search and hopefully those who have used the two services mentioned will share some feedback as well.

I had a good experience using Econocaribe to ship items from Chicago to STX.

Fleming Transport is their agent on STX.

Lee Fleming is easy to deal with, returns both phone calls and e-mails.

You can also contact a trucking company where you live and find out if they have any "Less than load" (LTL) trucks heading for Florida. They will charge you by weight, rather than pallet or bulk, to ship it to Tropical Shipping's container port. From there, Tropical puts it in a container with other pallets and brings it to STX. They charge by cubic foot, not weight. They have two departure dates each week. You collect your belongings from the customs/clearing area at the shipping port. There are a variety of transport companies who will deliver it to your new residence if you do not have a vehicle (or friends with a vehicle) that can handle it.

While it pays to shop Econocaribe provides end to end service including storage and delivery on STX. Something to be said for the convenience.

Jim, I just sold a carwash here in Michigan to finance my building on St. Croix. It is called the Jim Dandy carwash. Do you have ph.# or e-mail for Econocaribe? Thanks for sense of direction. Tedd

Econcaribe's number is 1-800-275-3405
Fleming's number is 340-778-9160

They are two different companies, but I guess all the freight goes to Fleming. The pricing os about the same, but on our shipping, Fleming will handle it from AZ to STX, while Econocaribe needs it shipped to LA first then they will handle it.
