Short-term apartment rates

I can see that most landlords in the VI do a lot of short term rentals. Do they often charge you for the previous month or require a deposit. They seem to be very open to short term tenants which seems risky when trying to keep an apartment occupied.

Also what are some of the extras that the tenant has to take care of on his/her own? For anything from water bills to trash removal: does it just depend on the apartment?

Thanks

It does depend on the apartment. Usually, the shorter the rental time, the higher the price, either weekly or monthly. It is usual for a landlord to require first month's, last month's and one extra month as security deposit.

Hello,

If you are looking on the Internet and seeing short term as in 1...2...3 weeks these are vacation rentals.

I think most landlords that rent long-term prefer to have a good tenant that is looking for a place to rent for 1 year or more rather than a good tenant that only wants to stay 3 months for example. Some landlords are ok with shorter terms... 3, 6 months while others are more apprehensive.

As Linda mentioned first month, last month and security deposit is pretty normal. Tenant might be responsible for electric & water and usually you set up your own phone, cable, Internet services. Trash pickup isn't the norm here; most people bag and take their trash to a community dumpster.
