Good afternoon, everyone!

My boyfriend and I will be moving to your lovely little slice of paradise next month for about 4 months - possibly longer, but not by much. We've been scouring the web and craigslist for short term rentals (that aren't scams). What's the best place(s) to find available apartments or does anyone of this board have any places up for grabs? We are planning on getting there around 06/19/2012.

Thanks!

Jessica

I just posted a list of places that do short term rentals. Some of them are better deals then others. There were 12 places that people recommended and I looked into. The post is on page 2 of this thread:

Opps I din't even notice that it wasn't listed.

I think every thread should start with STT, STX, STJ, or ALL and then the subject. You guys seem to all know which handles belong to which island but I only know a few of those.

Oops. We're really open at this point. We were focusing on STT or STJ, but we don't really know a lot about STX so we could be open to that as well.

Contact a realtor, look on craigslist and this site...your best bet.
But definately need to determine which island.

Here's the best way I can break it down.

STT- like being in NYC
STJ- small and personal, but pricey
STX- Like being on a farm

I think we've decided on STT with STJ as a possible back up. Should I start a new thread with that in the subject? I'm new at forums so I apologize for my novice ways 🙂

We're flexible.

Did you see ChanelCinq's post at https://www.vimovingcenter.com/talk/read.php?4,179860,180428#msg-180428 ? That will give you a huge headstart on short-term rentals on STT.

I did. We were really hoping for more of an actual apartment with a kitchen sort of set up and most of those seem to be more hotel based that just happen to do monthly rentals. We'll do what we need to, but we're trying to keep our options open.

Are you keeping your eyes on craigslist? There's one in this morning in Frenchman's Bay for $900 all inclusive which will accept short term:

If STT is anything like SJU when it comes to finding a place to stay your best bet is to show up, drive around, and look at the for rent signs. Because most of the stuff and a lot of the good stuff will not be advertised online. Probably the internet is used a bit more in STT then in SJU but I hear from people on STT that the best way is to drive around. I am moving to STT in the fall for 2 years so I want to live somewhere temporary while I find the perfect place.

A lot of those places also do weekly. So you could stay somewhere for a week before you find something a little longer. Almost all the places I listed have a kitchen or access to a kitchen. I think maybe one or two didn't. Yeah a kitchen is important to me as well because I will be spending my last borrowed penny to move so I will only be cooking and not eating out for the first couple months.

And, by no means, is STT like NYC -- are you kidding me?

I've always heard that analogy used in comparison to STX, STJ. As in, STT is like NYC compared to STX or STJ.

A few weeks ago I got stuck in Havensight traffic on a very busy cruise ship day and felt as though I was in the middle of Manhattan. Couldn't wait to get back to country, peace and quiet!

I've been working with several people on STX (currently also living in AZ) and have a few really great people with rentals that are condos/apts. Ones in Fredricksted ones in Christiansted. I would narrow it down to an island like everyone says. If you decide on STX I will share the contacts I have so far. You will have to let me know how your visit goes, is it a PMV or u just Oman pack up and for for a few months? Are you planning on working?
