Short visit

I have been reading this message board daily for almost a year. My wife and I have been thinking about visiting St. Croix this August, and was wondering if there are any bed and breakfasts, or anyone that rents a room or suite of their house for short term, such as one or two weeks. We wanted to get a feel for the island, and would prefer to stay with people that know how things work, can offer stories and insights, and relate experiences. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

If you like it there in August, you'll love it there the rest of the year. Aug. is the hottest and most humidity. We found it to be ok. But then our place always has a ocean breeze, and we are from AZ.:)

Try cottages by the sea @ caribbeancottages.com you will definitely get a feel for the island and it is run by a local family that have lived here for 3 generations.

also try www.villamargarita.com for a great guest house that is more a "bed and happy hour" than a "bed and breakfast". Look for a poster to this site by the nickname of DanielJude, also. He has short-term rental space for people visiting to try out the island to see if they want to make the move.

Both of these suggestions would have you living with people who have relocated and have lots of information to share to other prospective newcomers. It is also likely that a gathering can be arranged while you are on-island so you can meet some of the people on STX who post to this site and maybe make a few friends and/or get some island tours, etc.
