Hello Everyone!
I've been lurking here for a while and have learned TONS of valuable information. Thanks everyone for all of your posts and willingness to share your knowledge and experience. I am finally coming to STX for my PMV this coming Saturday and am very excited and eager to learn even more about your beautiful island in person. I have a few last minute questions that hopefully some of you can help me with.
We are staying at The Reef, arriving in STX around 3:30. We have rented a car, so we'll be going straight to the condo. Is there a good place around there to grab something to eat? Not sure how adventurous we'll feel trying to find our way around and exploring at that point in the day, so somewhere close would be great.

While I am there I'll be checking into some job prospects. My first stop will be the Cruzan Gardens, as my field is landscape design and gardening. Any other places anyone could recommend?

I've been checking with the Island Trade regularly for jobs/apartments/roommates/cars. Just want to get a feel for what's out there. If anyone has anything they feel I should check out, feel free to let me know!

Thanks in advance for all the help and advice!

See you in a week!

Your 1st night go to Duggun's on the beach across from the Reef. The little store at the bottom of the hill just opened, they have Deli and Barbacue. Chicken Charlies is a little west next to the gas station.
Tell everyone you meet you are looking for a job and give them your number.

Hi, and welcome. How long will you PMV be, and when do you plan to actually make the move? Maybe you realize it, but the Island Trader is basically a St. Thomas paper. Won't find much, if any, St. Croix jobs, cars, rentals, etc. We, on STX, have the Cruzan Trader. You access it through the same VI Daily News site as the Isl. Trader.

We may have emailed, but you can check out our rentals at http://www.virginislandsrentals.com. I don't have much available, but depending on your timing and the size apartment you need, I may have an opening. We are very central, so no matter where you find a job, it should be pretty convenient.

Here's a link to the phone book. You can check for other gardening centers/landscapers, etc. http://www.viphonebook.com

Good luck to you,

Thanks for the replies. My PMV will only be a week - trying to save as much as possible for the actual move. I'm hoping to make the move before the beginning of December. If not, then just after the first of the year.

Juanita - thanks for the link to the phone book - that was very helpful. Also, I saw the Cruzan Trader, but it just didn't hit me that it would be mostly STX. Don't know what I was thinking.

Thanks for the restaurant suggestions!

Hope you have a safe flight. Once here, pick up a crucian trader. They come out on Thursdays and they're free. Most every place has one. Also stop in to The Deep End, Buccaneer and Carambola. Might need landscapers/designers. Remember to KEEP LEFT!

Best of luck!

thanks for the clue-in about the Island trader vs. the Cruzan Trader.
I had a few papers sent to me and had no idea which Islands the listings in the classifieds are referring to!

Thanks Novanut.

I'll definitely pick up the Cruzan Trader. Have been reading it online for a few weeks now. If you hear of anyone looking for a landscaper/designer/gardner let me know!

Be there on Saturday!! Anyone know the weather forecast?

The job market is really SUCKS right now. Bring plenty of cash to keep you going. My husband and I moved here beginning of July, I am working for min. wage and he is still not working.
