slip rental

Can anyone recommend a good marina on the east end for slip rentals? We're thinking of purchasing a boat up here in Canada and bringing it down with us but I'd like to find out more about the local marinas. I've seen most rental prices at 11-15 dollars a foot per month. Does that seem accurate?

Thanks in advance,

Rachel

thats about right. Depending on the marina. The average i would say is 13 per ft. Plus 10 cents per gallon for water, and small electric fee if you need it.

Rachel,
Hi! Depending on what time of year you are bringing the boat down will make the decision as to what marina. Marinas such as American Yacht Harbor will not allow you to stay during a named or numbered storm. Marinas such as Boaters Haven (Compass Point) and Pirates Cove (LaVida) have excellent help on hand to secure the boats for a small fee. They will allow you to stay. Pirates Cove is not catering primarily to power boats, I understand. The pull down marina list on the main page of the St. Thomas site on this web site has a listing of all of the local marinas.
What type of boat are you considering and will you be chartering?

The boat I've been looking at is a 47' 1973 Trojan Triple Stateroom Motor Yacht. It's in wonderful condition. I love taking a few days and just going off into the unknown! Not to mention it makes a great guesthouse.

By chartering, do you mean will I be chartering it out to others? I had not even considered that but it would be a possibility if there is some kind of management company out there that handles those things. I don't have time to do anything like that myself. As long as I have my boat available when I want it, I'm happy!

Sometime this week we're going to decide if we're buying it or not.

Rachel,
Yes, there are many places here that handle bareboat rentals and can manage the boat for you. Email if you want a list of them .... it's a great way to have the boat available for your use but also make those boat/insurance payments! And they take care of the boat while you are gone.
