Friends are coming to visit in July and they need to rent snorkel gear - where on St Thomas is a good place for rentals for the week that is quality gear. Also looking to purchase 2 sets - thinking of buying used to keep our cost down. Any suggestions?

Aqua Action at Secret Harbor and Red Hook Dive Center at AYH both rent snorkel equipment daily and weekly. I wouldn't recommend buying used equipment as a general rule as it's best to be properly fitted if you're planning on it for permanent use.

thanks but kmart is a junk store ...already bought the most expensive set there and it broke within 2 uses and the quality was junk. I will just talk to some people at the dive shops

I bought most of mine on line. There are several dive shops that should be able to help you. I bought my snorkel at Aqua Action over a year ago. I paid $20 for a good one and I am very pleased with it. I should mention that I probably snorkel once a week so it gets a lot of action. Service was good, as well. Do some research on line, then check out the dive shops around and about. There is one in Havensight, one behind Molly Malone's, Aqua Action (that we've already named) and one at Bolongo. I don't know much about the one at Coki. I have shopped at all the rest.

No, it was ONLY the snorkel, not mask, not fins, not booties. I would not buy used gear. I have some you can HAVE, if you like. PM me and I'll describe what's been left with me better. Maybe even send you a picture or two.

The key to maintaining your gear is a good rinse after each use. I bring mine (including the mesh bag) into the outdoor shower. The soapy runoff washes off the salt water. Never store you gear in direct sunlight. I have very inexpensive "body glove" mask and snorkel and It's held up well. Fins are big Marres, originally purchased in 1997 and still going strong. If you don't want the leg and a$$ work-out from big fins, try the cheep classic small black fins. We keep a several pairs in assorted sizes for guests. Personally, I don't like the strap backs because the booties are a hassle.

I like the booties. They have taken me to some places I would never have been able to go without them.
