Anyone know of sources for used cooking oil? We're looking at going off the grid with it, but we'd be about 100 gallons a week short.

What about other restaurants/owners nearby.
Good luck with getting off the grid. Let us know how that goes!

For quite some time mine went to someone who'd converted their fishing boat to run on it. Unfortunately EPA came running around and put a stop to such conversions for some reason which I now can't remember. People out boating in open waters used to get a chuckle out of suddenly getting whiffs of fry oil across their bows ...

Since EPA did clamp down on it you'd best check very carefully before engaging in any conversions as it would be a shame to go to all that expense and then have it shut down.

I Love it Leo!

Ive been running around trying to pitch an idea to some of my business owner friends. It seems they have these machines that convert waste oil from cars into diesel. So if you had one of those and a diesel generator you would be all set! There is no shortage of waste oil at the garages and its quite a nuisance for them. All you would need to do is drop off 55 gallon drums at the shops and stop by periodically to swap them out. I believe you have to add 5 percent gas to the oil to burn it, but still a lot cheaper than WAPA!

Yeah, but then the by product becomes your head ache to deal with then.

Leo's, check out the filtration system set-up at Blue Water Terrace, they run their generator off their used cooking oil.

Then, perhaps getting in touch with other restaurants who must pay CES to process the oil/ship it off island, it might be a great solution to collaborate...just saying

If Buffet can do it then why can't VI do it?

To avoid a mass of speculation, the best idea is probably to call EPA and ask them. They're a federal agency and can be reached at 340 714 2333.
