Hi all. Does anybody know what sort of programs (if any) are available for children with Down Syndrome on either STT or STX? Thanks!

The Special Ed Department is understaffed. I don't know of any special programs, just "regular" special ed, IEP stuff.

If I was the parent of such a child, I would think long and hard before moving to the USVI. You need to do LOTS of research.

If it is of help.......I have augmented educational programming and education for many, many years. I live on STX, and have implemented 43 programs in schools directed at the needs of youngsters with one diagnosis or mixed diagnoses, especially in the developmental and/or neurobiological development disorders.

This of course does NOT substitute for special education, but rather is in addition to and in support of FAPE, IDEA and NCLB. I have a master's degree in individual and social rehabilitation, have been in the field for twenty some odd years etc.

There is a school on STX: Kingshill School. They do a tremendous job of a) providing mixed classroom populations without stigma attached as well as serving children with a variety of developmental disorders.

I do not know their number off hand, however they are readily found in the phonebook.

All the best, and I wish your child great success.
