St. Croix here I Come?

Ok, so I would like to gain people's opinion. I plan on coming to St. Croix this summer. I currently reside in a big city on the mainland but I am tired of the never-ending hours I work, the traffic and the cut throat atmosphere I live in. I have vacationed to St. Croix a few times a love it, but am not sure what type of employment I will be able to find. I have a BS and not too much experience. The only job I know of is teaching. Does anyone have any advice.

Also I know that being young and from a big city I would want to live in Christiansted, is it expensive? Around what will rent for a 2 bedroom apartment be? Well I want all the information you have to offer.

Thanks in advance for your help

You should be able to find a nice apartment for under $1,000 a month providing you're not dead set on a great view. You can actually get by for less, but fabulous views are available and that may run you into the $2,000 range. Careful shopping and patience can pay off. Find something modest and launch your search by posting notes at public places and in the local papers.

This is truly paradise, although island life isn't for everyone.

Hi...I'm planning to come down for the summer, too, and it sounds like we might have some things in common. Are you planning a short-term visit, or a permanent move? Do you know anybody there?

Thanks, STT Resident, and don't worry... though I've been quiet, I've fiddled around on the message board enough to know that you don't believe in killing centipedes, or in killer frogs (though you are an advocate for Killer Toads), and that one should never ask a question without first researching past posts. So far, every question I've had has been answered without me having to ask. This is a great resource for info, and I hope it will be a good way to meet other people, both those who are in the same boat I'm in and those who are settled and happy.
HGH

A 2 bedroom in a nice area for $1000 a month. Snap that up quick if you find it...but for a 2 bedroom plan on spending at least 200 to 500 more. Most people do not live in the city. Its very small and its not the safest at night. But you have many options within minutes of it.

Hi,

We are also planning on moving to St.Croix this fall. Like you, we are tired of the "rat race". We live in Annapolis, Md. and have visited ST.Croix the last 2 xmas.

Where are you from? Teaching? Are you a teacher currently? I am a Master Pilates Instructor/Personal Trainer.

Would love to chat with you,

Cameron
