Why did gas go up .50 cent -------and the rack rate went up .23 cent (Daily News Oct 17 2011). Yes, 4:00 yesterday I bought gas out West near Plaza Extra---both stations were at 3.19----just returned from shopping and the price is $3.69-------------.50 cent increase in less than 24 hours.
I think its time we start tracking the cost of a barrel of oil(42 gallons), today $88.15, Hovensa Rack Rate, $3.09, and an average of what we are paying, and the LEAC on our WAPA bills. Maybe we can better understand how we are charge for gasoline and LEAC, compared to the cost of a barrel of oil and Hovensa rack rate.

And to boot, the Daily News article reads: St Croix---Motorists may see gasoline prices edge upward this week..... A .50 cent increase in one day is edging up, what if we had a spike?????? . Moreover, this months WAPA bill has a DECREASE, compared to last month.

Barrel/42 gallons................Hovensa Rack Rate .................Stat 1-West.........Stat 2 East..... Sunny......... WAPA Res Leac

What BS. Where is DLCA? Is this what an 8% paycut gets us? They cut the price monitors? Or, are the price monitors making a lil' on the side to "forget" to monitor?

This might be a dumb question but does WAPA pay the rack rate for its fuel?

DCLA is useless and doesn't do a thing for the consumer. The division that "regulates" and "monitors" pricing "for" the consumer, should be entirely eliminated because they do absolutely nothing for us.

1st of all what WAPA pays Hovensa for the fuel oil they burn to generate electricity, is to my knowledge. a price set by a contract negotiated by a bunch of legislators/WAPA years ago who agreed to some ridiculous unrealistic formula that way over benefits the refiner(Hess now Hovensa).

2nd - I agree that the DCLA is pretty much useless. They seemed more worried about harrassing owners for their current business licenses or making sure somebody isn't smoking a cigarette where they aren't supposed to.

3rd - No gas stations on the north shore (One Love, 5 Corners, Lionel's @ Golden Rock, Wellco, Tide Village)
have changed their prices yet. If that station next to Plaza Extra West went up $.50/gallon when Hovensa raised purchase price by $.23/gallon -I cannot believe some owner would be that arrogant to raise it that much.

I would believe that arrogance, because this morning at Sunny Isle intersection, the gas station on Sunny Isle side of the road was $3.19 for regular gas, whereas Shuama had already raised the price by 50 cents - to $3.69!!!!!!!!! Unreal!

The government needs to eliminate DCLA and therefore will save a lot of $.

.Other stations followed with increase, however, not .50 cent

Today, 5 corners still at $3.24---cash only

Stations near Sunny Island all at $3.59----from $3.19, still a .40 increase

One Love increase yesterday at $3.24, saw gas delivery truck yesterday, and now at $3.47----exactly a .23 increase like the rack rate. Plus One Love you can get free air for your tires. KUDOs to One Love for not following the others and going up .40 and .50 cent.

Well then everybody should fill up at One Love if they can. At least they did the "right thing" and that was a straight pass through of Hovena's raise. These other yahoos who raised anywhere from $.40 to $.50/gallon should be boycotted. Today Shauma & the station across the street in Sunny Isle are both @ $3.569 (which is a $.47/gallon raise). I'm not sure but I would bet a lot of money that these owners who raised more than $.23/gallon did it because they know DCLA can't do a thing about it.

One Love is a state of mind, mon. Also, it's a gas station in La Grande Princess on the east-bound side of Northside Rd. / Route 75, just west of the Avis newspaper building.
