Hey everyone, I am moving to St. John in mid-June and I'm looking for a small (studio or 1 bedroom, 2 bed depending on price) apartment to rent long term. Preferably in Cruz Bay but anything is better than nothing.
I'm a recent college graduate, I'm very clean and responsible and I can provide contact information from my last two landlords. I have a very well behaved black lab who is non-destructive and completely housebroken. He's fixed, has short hair that I brush almost daily, he never marks, and is convinced everybody is his friend.
I'm flexible, adaptable, and willing to live anywhere with a bed and a roof. I'll continue checking Craigslist daily, as well as any other classifieds or other rental sites.
Any lead helps. Thanks.

Unfortunately, this is going to be tough. What is your budget? Do you have a temporary place to stay when you get here? Have you already secured flights for your dog? I know that can be tough especially in the summer months for dogs that have to fly cargo.

I see apartment listings on Craigslist but may not be legit. Check but do not send money without performing due diligence.

He's a support dog, so flying shouldn't be too difficult. I'm also going to find the shortest nonstop I can. I haven't yet booked a temporary place to stay, I will when I get a more firm move date however I've already done research.
As for budget, clearly the lower the better, but the few places I've already reached out to were within budget. I don't need any crazy luxuries or whatnot, I understand the quirks of an island.
Most Craigslist ads seem to be scams ($750 a month?! Gotta be a scam, right?) though there are a few legitimate ads. But from what I've read and who I've talked to, most places go by word of mouth which makes things difficult for me at the moment.

The places I've seen on craigslist the few times I've checked don't appear to be legitimate. And yes, most go by word of mouth. I currently have several friends who have lived here for 5-10 years and are still looking for anything in the less than $1,200 plus utilities range. A budget of $3,000 plus utilites range I've seen a few here and there. There are also places that are under repair now that should come back on the long term market in the next 3-4 months. You can give Scenic Properties a call and see if they may have anything opening up, 340-693-7777. I'll keep my ears open and let you know if I hear of anything, but if you could give a max budget that would help.

I think I could feasibly manage up to $1700 a month, including utilities.
