If anyone could share their viewpoints it would be greatly appreciated and how far apart are they?

Thank you,
Jeff

Hello ChefJeff and Peter,

St. Thomas is bigger then St. John and has a much larger population.
St. John is more expensive then St. Thomas.
St. Thomas has more job oppurtunities and apartment oppurtunities basically because its a bigger island with more development. However St. John has a its fair share of jobs, a number of people from St. Thomas commute to work there - mostly in hotels ect.
There are schools on both islands, bus system, grocery stores, nice beaches, bars, restaurants...
St. Thomas has more stores, doctors... choices but they are easily accessed by taking a ferry over and spending a day getting your errands run - lots of St. Johnians do it.

Is this the sort of comparison you wanted? If not what types of things were you wanting to compare about each island?

You could take the ferry across from St.John to Red Hook, here on St.Thomas - a 15 minute trip.

If you have a car, you can take the car ferry.

If no car, then you'd have to either take a taxi or $1.ride safari into Charlotte Amalie to go to Temple - allowing perhaps 45 minutes for the trip, depending on traffic.

Hello Peter,

An alternate method would be to take the Charlotte Amalie ferry from St. John, it takes 45 minutes. When you arrive in Charlotte Amalie you could take a short taxi ride (less then 5 minutes) or walk.

Islander's first message is correct. His/her comparisons between the two islands are all true. However, speaking from my biased opinion, I think St. John is the best! The pace of life is not as hectic as St. Thomas's, and it's more rural, not unlike a Carribbean GREEN ACRES. Most people there take time to say hi and will even offer you a ride into town sometimes.

So my opinion in a nutshell is this: if you like rural, go for St. John; if you like city, go for St. Thomas. They're both very pretty!
