Minor Point,
Crucian is the current spelling for the people on STX. Cruzan is the Rum that is made on the island. Cruzan is an old time spelling and used as an alternate today. One other Point St Patrick" was not Irish"! I Hope everybody has a great time at the Parade.

Cruzan time may be more appropriate than Crucian time, considering there will be a LOT of rum consumed that day.:D

My immediate thought was "beer-thirty".

I'm so glad the parade is on the 14th. I wasn't thinking about the day of the week, just the date (17th), and I have a new tenant arriving that day, so I was afraid I would have to miss it.

The parade is always on the Saturday closest to the actual St Patrick's day so you never have to worry about it being on a weekday.

greets

i am getting fake labor twinges just reading this post.
in 1981 at the st patty's day parade i started getting largetime labor twinges.
really great parade that year.
two mocko jumbies surrounded me for much of the parade....i felt blessed in more ways than one.
went back to the gates and did not know WHY i was in such a flurry of CLEANING and IRONING all my kings uniforms and COOKING for no apparent reason atal.
being as it was my first experience with birth, i did not know that i was doing what is called "nesting", which is apparently an inborn instinct in every female, whether they be animal or hue-man. it is the phenomena of preparing your gates for the newborn and generally happens prior to labor. i did not know that...i just thought i had gone a bit mad.
needless to say my dawta was born a few days after on st. patty's day.
i always feel tearfully sentimental around this time.....remembering her birth.
i do not know if they do the following in the states...i have never heard of it...but i am glad that charles harwood did it then...
after i delivered my youth i said i was hungry...and they went and got me a plate of food and brought it to me while i was still in the labor room. i was chowing down and it was so so good. at that time local cuisine was served at the hospital.
everyone have an irie time at the parade this year....

guidance
Sis Irijah

I am moving to St. Thomas on March 11th. So, is the St. Pattys day parade a big deal? Are there many places that decorate, have specials etc? Just a newbie to the island question, one of many.

Markgieth,
The parade is on St Croix not St Thomas! You can There by plane or Ferry ( I recommend Plane)!

The parade is a big deal, after carnival its the biggest one of the year on stx. Restaurants do not decorate like they do stateside though, because usually everybodies out in the streets until its over (3 or 4 hours). Its a big party usually, so I'm shocked by all these rumors of them trying to make it family friendly and not selling alcohol on the streets. I mean all the "floats" are throwing beads and splashing people with water. Its much more of an adult parade then a kids parade, there aren't even any real "floats" like what you would see stateside. Its just a excuse to party and drink like stateside.

Mark,
The place to be for St. Patrick's Day on STT is Molly Molones in Red Hook. They do a "parade" of sorts, something like 3 times around the marina, NO big deal, but then the party starts at the restaurant. They bring in musicians and dancers, etc. They actually celebrate on the 17th, no matter what day of the week it is, so you could come over to STX for the Saturday parade and still take in Molly's on the 17th.

Miss Judith is 'Grand Matshall'. Just got done talking with her and she had been asked for the past 4 years but this year she was told there were no other candidates. She would need to be the one. she just like decorating her bicycle.

There is a "parade" in STT - it starts at Molly Malones, runs through the Marina, sometimes across the street and then back to the bar! I think, and I might be wrong, that it is always on the 17th regardless of the day of the week. I hear some people actually remember being in it.
