Well, actually, who else but thugs and gangbangers are going out equipped with guns and ammo enough for a 40 shot shootout at 2:30 in the moring? Definitely not your average person.

Hope they all had carry permits issued by VIPD.
What are the chances of that?

As for misleading opinions and lack of native representation being sorely needed, you're not the only native islander on the forum tho you may be the only one hanging out at 2:30 in the morning.

1. There's been no reports identifying participants (or IDing them as "gangbangers," no less). Way to stereotype. It could have been a botched robbery for all we know (victim may have been wearing a nice watch).

2. The prevailing belief on this forum appears to be that crime isn't really that bad so long as the victims are locals. As a native islander, I obviously don't hold such beliefs. The fact is that everyone should be wary about moving somewhere where even the most die-hard apologists concede that you shouldn't go out at night. Again, if you are very old, that's not a problem. But for a young person, that limitation is just awful.

3. A friend recently told me about this site, and suggested that the opinions were often misleading and that native representation was sorely needed. I am glad to help!

1. When five armed young men are blasting off at each other at 2:30AM, I hardly think it was because one of them was wearing a nice watch begging to be stolen. This is not stereotyping, this is reality.

2. I've never subscribed to this train of thought. I've no clue what you consider "very old" but, judging by your comments on the subject, I imagine this includes most people on the dark side of 45. It's logical (and not "conceding" by any stretch) that it's inadvisable pretty much anywhere to be out in deserted dark territory in the wee hours of the morning.

3. Opinions on public forums are very often misleading, whatever the subject. Sorely needed "native representation"? So unless one was born in the area about which one opines, one's opinion is therefore skewed, irrelevant and suspect? I've little doubt that I've lived here way longer than you have years on you ...

Justice for Jimmy

Almost 3 years ago, on September 14, 2012, Jake Bierowski, and his beloved dog were murdered in his home In Estate Pearl, St. Croix, USVI. NO ARRESTS have been made. PLEASE, if you know something, say something. We send our love & prayers to his Mom, Betsy Campen, who spent so many years sharing her love of St. Croix through the gift of her painting.
