What is the standard of living like in the USVI? How much do things like homes/apartments, food, and services cost. How much does one honestly have to make to live comfortably? And by comfortably, I mean, able to live in a safe, clean neighborhood and have enough money to be able to enjoy an occasional restaurant dinner or recreational activity?

Your question is very broad. So much depends on how you are used to living. We (couple, mid 50's semi retired, not big drinkers) find that our costs are greater, but not that much. If you are on a budget, you have to look longer and harder to find housing. Watch out for hidden costs, water for example.

Bottom line, we bring in about $3,000 a month and spend every penny!! So far we are not tapping into our savings for living expenses. I'm sure some people do it for less, some for MUCH more.

Good luck.
