The west-end Kmart is about say.. 3 or 4 miles from Frederiksted. You can take one of the $2 taxis there, or you can take them to the other Kmart in Sunny Isle if you want to shop at the other stores too.

And Sunshine Mall, which is next to the Kmart in west, has about 10 stores including a FootLocker, Marianne(which is in the inside, NOT outside like someone said, their store window is just visible from the outside), Champs, a small department store, a clothing store, and a McDonalds. Sunny Isle has about 20-25 stores if I were to make an estimate, and although it's nothing like stateside malls, it's decent.

About the farm industry... as a born and raised Crucian, I agree it would work out well for the island. It's just that there isn't much of an interest in farming among the youth these days, it's mostly an "older people thing", but people are trying to correct that stigma in this day and age by promoting farming as crucial to developing the island economy.
