Driving behind HD tonight I saw the most emaciated dog I've ever seen. Went to CUL and fed him 2 cans but the Humane Society is closed tomorrow and phone message says to call 911 for an injured animal. He's a pit, very submissive but I had to leave the cans and watch him from afar. Will go early tomorrow to give H2O if he's there and another 2 cans. Will that be too much, don't want to get him sick. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I'm no vet, but page two has some good info. Good luck, really great of you to help.

Great info, just what I was looking for. There was a part of me that knew not to over feed. Love the Internet, thanks for the link. Hope he's around in the a.m.

Try calling Humane Society again today.
If you cannot reach them, PM me and I can give you a cell contact number for someone who works there to contact.
The odds aren't usually good for these kinds of thrown away dogs, especially if they have heart-worm.
It's good that he's docile as it may give him a fighting chance at adoption.
Fingers crossed for a happy ending for this poor pup.

He wasn't there this a.m. But he may just come out at night, will try again. FYI... Humane Society said the best thing is to try and catch him, the drop-off for large dogs isn't ready yet but if I called the police they could contact HS and they would pick him up. Sadly, they just found another on their road but the markings are different so my guy is still out there.

Good luck in the rescue of the dog. Just take it slow and easy and be patient. You are prob feeding just enough. They can't process food well when they are in bad shape.I do a lot of rescue here in IL it can be very trying. Every animal deserves a chance. They didn't do what has happened to them we did. I am hoping to help as I can once I get there.

Drove by tonight to where I left an open can of food and a bowl of H20 (cut open gallon jug). Can was gone, water had been moved but still a lot left. Will keep trying and post hopefully good news.

Wish I had any news. My can-a-day is gone but I don't know if it's been him. Try going by at various times but only the one sighting, ladies who walk there haven't seen him. Thanks for asking! I'm holding onto hope.

Why don't you ask Humane Society to set a trap.
If food is being eaten - it's being eaten by an animal that has no home.
Something needs to be done!

I passed by there today and did not see anything, although I routinely see homeless dogs by the bolongo dumpsters.

Thanks, only the one sighting. Haven't left food in 2 days, in bed... Flu vs dengue. Hope to stop by tomorrow if I'm up to it.
