Just this past weekend there was an Enviormental hike on the Njelteberg Gut - there are organized bird walks as well - Walking down and back up at the new Botany Bay property is beautiful and considered their provision of public access.
St John has tons of hiking trails that are great and only a ferry ride away.

I've done both of these hikes and can hardly believe that there are no others here on St Thomas. Anyone know of any other nature hikes/walks/scrambles? My bf and I go over to St John nearly every week to hike and snorkel. It would be lovely to be able to do these things on the island where we actually LIVE and not need to worry about catching the car ferry back home. I am aware that St John will have many more than St Thomas would simply because of the National Park, but only two? Somebody MUST know of more. :S

Unless land is designated as a park, it's probably privately owned, and the owner is liable should there be an injury/accident. That's why it's important to encourage land donations/purchases for public use.

There's a nature trail at Magens, and I was going to map it yesterday, but got distracted. I did a review on tripadvisor.com to make more PR.oops aware of it.

Many people walk up to Paradise Point, and continue up their nature trail. Other people mention walking the road that leads to Bordeaux as far as the lookout. You can walk the grounds at UVI. The views are incredible, and I've seen some very interesting things on campus. The walk from Best Western Emerald Beach to Best Western Caribbean Beach is kind of interesting, too. Incredible views, and its especially lovely when their frangipani tree is in bloom. Many people walk the road to the national park on STT which is where the Caneel ferry leaves from.

Who did the Njeltberg trail? I didn't know about that one, but want to go! Let me Google...

I have heard that there is a trail down from Drakes Seat to Megan's beach. Call Megan's beach and see if it is true.

It's true, I've done it. Don't know what landmarks to look for for the start of the trail at the top, but from the parking lot at Magen's, go as far west as you can and walk back away from the beach -- you'll find some signs marking the nature preserve. There's a trail up from there -- it's pretty steep in places.

I did Neltjeberg. I guess it is a horse trail or something. It starts at the Southwest corner of the apartments at Dorthea. Very nice. The day we went was a rainy one and the whole thing was deserted, trail and beach. Thanks for the different suggestions. I guess we will keep hiking St John, and keep on the lookout for any goat trails on our rock! *-)
