STX - Bad for Single Men?

I have read several posts that the single scene in STX is not good at all. I am wondering exactly how bad it is. I am a recently divorced 37 white male.

I am moving to St Croix on June 14th. I have visited there and have a condo at Saint C ready for my move. I am really looking forward to starting my new job with Hovensa....

Also, anyone have any news about Saint C condos, good or bad?

PM IslandJoan about St. C, as she just looked at a bunch of condos to purchase (She settled on one in Questa Verde (sp?)

And, the single life...well, I've only been living on STX half the time for the last six months, so I don't know it as well as I do STT, where I've lived for ten years....also where it is something like 7 men to one woman for us expats...makes the single life kinda lonely, ya know? (Unless you hang out at the resorts and date only women on vacation....which are plentiful...). I like the STT saying: "You never lose your girlfriend on STT...you just lose your TURN!" Haha! And, on STX, from the ladies perspective: "The odds are good....but the goods are ODD!"

St C condos are very nice, with all having good views and some excellent views. We have a new manager who is doing a great job renovating the place. It has a pool, but some times is a bit cold. We are in talks with people who want to put in a restrurant, will wait and see if that happens.
I believe that Islandjoan passed on STC because at the present time, no pets are allowed.
There is no beach access, as it is on the hill side. My unit is 35' from the edge with the waves are breaking 55' below.
Many people do not use their A/C many months of the year, as there is a nice breeze 90% of the time.
St C is at the end of what is called condo row, but we are far away from other condos. There is no public housing near. The one that was there has been closed.
It is not really very good for children, but there are a few there.

All three islands are pretty disappointing if you're looking to date.

To answer Terry: yeah, I decided on QV mainly because they allow pets. But also, since I've been on STX for over 8 yrs now, I don't feel the need to live right on the ocean..too many maintenance issues due to corrosive salt spray. For a renter that's not an issue, but for an owner it is. Plus the backup generator and huge pool at QV are big pluses.

If you're single guy who's a homebody and isn't outgoing you will have a hard time. You will have to work a little harder, then you probably do now, but there are definitely single women in your age range.

I used to feel sorry for my single guy friends but after living here for so long now I feel more sorry for the slection my girlfriends have. I know too many great single women with good jobs who cant find a good man here for all the talk that they are supposedly outnumbered.

udsmkh, I don't think that you should find it any harder to meet nice single women in STX than anywhere else. I know several single women who have had a hard time finding a quality man there. You should be aware that it is especially important how you treat people, as everyone tends to either know or know of each other. If you are lucky enough to meet a suitable person, I think there are few places more romantic that a Caribbean island to get to know each other!

Just to put another spin on this... You don't necessarily have to expect to be limited to women who live on St. Croix. It's likely that you'll meet quite a few vacationers from other islands, the U.S., and elsewhere, plus family members and friends of St. Croix residents, traveling workers, etc. and although I wouldn't recommend a long distance relationship to anyone, you never know what might happen. I went home to Virginia from New Orleans to visit my family for Christmas 2006 for a week and ran into an old acquaintance, who ended up driving back to New Orleans with me and then moving to Phoenix with me. I tell people that despite moving across the country, I haven't been able to get rid of him. 🙂 Fortunately, he is all for moving to St. Croix in a few years!:D

I'm a single woman and will be moving to STX in the next couple of months. I'm going in July to look for an apartment and then coming back to get things ready. I'll be there so I know there will be at least one decent single woman to meet.....lol
