Money? - use your atm from stateside. Works great. Stateside checks.. not so good, take too long to clear. You can always open a local bank account and transfer... Travelers Checks are accepted, but non touristy places aren't too happy about them. You can always go to a bank though and cash them as you need them.

Use your stateside cell phone. Works perfectly. I have plenty of friends who have US numbers.

Car.. call all the majoyrcar rental places ... they'd love a 10 week rental and will work with you on a deal. But, it still won't be cheap. I heard Judi of Croix has the most inexpensive rentals - check them. Otherwise, you might get lucky and find a car that you could buy for cheap and sell when you go back. In August/Sept there will be a lot of people coming down for season and selling an inexpensive care will be easy. (of course, that means you have to have the cash to buy it up front tho).

Good Luck.

Edward what do you mean $17000 a month? Even changed my settings to threaded to try and figure that one out.

Don't bring travelers checks. They are a pain. Some businesses will not take them. Some businesses will not take credit cards either. Cash is still king in the vi. Usually it's gas stations and a few restaurants that will not take credit cards, its not bad at all. Some of the atms have no charge either when you pull out money. I've kept my bank stateside (and very very glad I did) so my check card, credit cards and checks are all stateside accounts. And have had little to no trouble. I use bank stx atms because I don't get charged a fee.

Betty,

I believe Edward is referring to an earlier post where someone stated they know of a Condo that can be rented for $17000 a month. Probably meant $1700 a month.

Thanks, I think I agree that Travelers Checks are not necessary. ATM's will do us just fine.

Thanks again, JH

I just wanted to thank everyone who responded to my posts. Your feedback, assistance and answers have been trremendously helpful!

My wife, Eileen, is in the air as I type this. She two of our friends traveling with her to help gether settled until the kids and I get down there next week, land later this afternoon in STX.

She is very excited, as we all are. This should be a great experience for our kids and as well as for me and my wife.

Again, my wife is a Nurse and will be working in the ER. If you find yourself in the Emerngency Room and Eileen is your Nurse, you will be in good hands. She is a well experienced trama RN.

Thank again and I hope to meet some of you while we vists your island for a few months.

All the best, Jed Hoban
