A friend emailed me yesterday saying that Off-the-Wall was robbed at gunpoint Tuesday night (June 29, 2010).
Patrons as well. (yikes...I was there that day for lunch!)

I don't see any report of it in the ViSource or VirginIslandDailyNews websites (and haven't picked up an Avis in weeks). Why are our local "sources" for news not current?

Things seemed to be going so good along that stretch, and now this (again)

What's the status on the promised police sub-station?

What's it going to take to get policing/security out here?

Status on having a sub station across from OTW is still same as it was -- an empty lot. My wife has given up pursuing this since mid 2008.

Broken promises by Oakland Benta (Chief of Police), who personnally promised action would be taken ( mid 2008) --never happened and his office quit responding to calls inquiring as to the status.

In early 2009 Senator Samuel Sanes personnally promised action would be taken to put in a sub station (early 2009). Nothing happened - just words.

The latest senator to promise something would be done is Donestorg (early 2010) - nothing has happened.

So there you go - a bunch of words said at the time which sounded good -but in the end no action taken by either the VIPD or Senators.

I see Sky's thread now, and the article on line.

When I posted this morning it was WAY before 11 am. --which is when my posting information says I posted it.
It was around 9 am this morning! And the VIdaily didn't have their article up this morning either.

Something funny going on (technically speaking) :-X

Anyway.... use Sky's thread and leave this one alone.

Neil: The Daily News doesn't put their edition on line until evening. You have to buy it on dead tree to read it in the morning. I was going to say that you can buy a digital edition that comes out first thing, but saw Tippi's thread re: the end of that convenience.

Thanks Eastend for the editorial schedule.
I guess I'm just STILL USED TO stateside reporting standards.
The robbery happened June 29.
The VID website didn't post it until July 1.
You would have thought that was big enough news that should have been posted the very next day.

Well, the Daily News was probably busy with the Tutu Mall shooting. Their deadline, I believe, is midnight, so they couldn't get it into the paper on the 30th. Also check the St Croix Source. Not sure if they are any quicker.

As a side comment, I am frequently amazed that often the first mention of news here is from internet sources.. I have had stateside people e-mail me about things that happened just down the street from me.:-o
