I lived in STX in the early to mid 90's. It took a year or so to get "into the groove" of the island lifestyle and working on STX.

Can i get a few one-sentence opinions/views/outlook? I am considering relocating back...i did enjoy it "most" of the time, but then, there is always "something" anywhere you live. I have employment opps and am familiar with the ins & outs.

Thanks

Any St. Croix residents want to give a shot at helping with this question?

Sqeeterz - I'd recommend a recent thread by *Gasp* about moving back to the states. While the person was living on St. Thomas I believe the comments would apply to the VI in general. Also there is another thread about 5 things I like & miss; you might enjoy that one too.

Sqeeterz,

What were the things you liked "most of the time" that are making you consider a move back to STX? And what were the things that happened the rest of the time and weren't so great when you were here last? Islander had a good idea when referring to the 5 good things/5 most missed things post. Perhaps if we knew specific things you found good and bad about your previous time here, the Crucians on the board could offer insights on what those things are like today.

From your reply to another thread, I know you felt that there were a lot of fast, and maybe even somewhat reckless, drivers on STX. While there are still those folks who come up fast behind you and tear past you at the first passing zone, I've found the majority of drivers here to be very courteous instead of being completely obsessed with their own need to get to their destination fast, everyone else be damned. I will admit that I may not be the best judge of this having spent the last seven years driving into and out of Washington DC, one of the most self-absorbed, self-important cities anywhere, during rush hour.

What else comes to mind about life on STX?

HC

HC,
You mean you don't miss those traffic circles??? I think the closest ones to you now are in Roadtown, Tortola.

Thanks for the replies...i guess the things i didn't like actually smoothed out after a while. I had a small business there and catered to the local Dominican/St. Lucian/VI market. It was just tough at first (they needed to get used to me, me to them)...as I look back now, NO PROBLEM!

I will check out the 5 THINGS thread!
