Gotcha - how about this question then - what level of food are we talking? Same as it was? Better? Best on the island? Rumrunners? Just curious as to what we're talking here so I don't get all excited for nothing. Thanks

what types of food are at the paradise cafe?
beakfast, lunch, dinner?
what varieties of food are offered?
what are your personal faves?
as a waiter, are you comfortable eating there?
is the food consistent?
just interested in knowing...you have been there for quite a while and that stands for something in my book.

I agree on the yuck - with one or two exceptions - the fresh fish is good for lunch usually. Paradise has great cole slaw - I'd like the recipe actually if the chef will part with it.

not zebos just 2 of the partners, one is out of zebos and the other still has a share of both, slaw?i've watched him make it, a big bowl of veggies, half a bag of sugar a big jug of mayo half a big can of pineapple juice let it sit for a couple of hours then stir it all up and wait until the next day to serve it

had appetizers at Kendricks last nite - they're running a bar menu. the sour orange tuna tacos were awesome, i could have eaten those all day. had the crab potstickers which were also good, i wish the inside was warmer though. still hungry, so we had their gorgonzola sweet potato ravioli from the regular app menu - delicious. all with a bottle of Jekel pinot noir and 2 desserts - chocolate mousse and apple crisp. all in all really good. it was quiet there, so good to give the bar some business.

Love Kendricks, great food. But their bar should be tied with Styx for most uncomfortable bar stools. 😉

LOL, i sat at a table, so i didn't get to experience that.

Another review or 2:

I'm currently eating a $6 lunch plate from Le Chaim (sp) over in 5 corners, La Grande Princesse. It is delicious! first time there and i will be back. I got couscous (cooked perfectly), carrot pulp (awesome, don't even know really it is!), something called eggless which is tofu and tastes like tofu potato salad, and a green salad. the BIG plate (and it is big) is $12. They have lots of other items, juices, soy ice cream, etc...also natural products. the people there were so nice, too. awesome overall! and i did see that they take credit cards (plus!).

This brings to mind another $6 lunch special - Zeny's in Market Square, Csted. You can get a whole slew of items for $6. I always get the stewed chicken with seasoned rice and beans and it comes with some lettuce and tomato or a cucumber. Just ask for the $6 plate of ____. I have also had the curried chicken which is good, but i prefer stewed. I haven't had anything else but it's a great value and Zeny's makes really great Puerto Rican/Crucian food. i heard their passion fruut juice is great too, haven't tried it.

Hate to ask - but what is the hygiene condition at Zeny's. I know when i was at Zeny's 2 which is now closed there was a pretty bad cockroach issue.

stxfoodie, i would imagine that most ( not all ) restaurants have that issue. they will still be here after the world ends.

i've never seen any cockroaches or anything like that there. it is a little hole in the wall, but i don't think it looks unsanitary.

roaches thrive on paper and boxes, they love glue too. personally i dont think they have anything to do with how clean a place is. i think the just ARE.

lol....I'm surprised your illusion lasted this long. I prefer deck bar, especially if Phil is there. Like to watch the people and have a good breeze, but friends usually wanna hit styx for a drink or two. Then its on to the next....Never understand why we have to move so much....lol...its summer if you sit still everyone will pass by you, unless they're all at Mahi's like tonight.

Went to all-u-can-eat crab nite at H2O Thurs. for the first time. Had a great time, we went at 6pm when they start. The service was great and the food was excellent...just be for-warned that the "bowl" of shrimp is really only 5 shrimp. I stuffed to the max and went home happy!
