I feel like I've been a negative nancy on this thread so I wanted to lighten it up a bit.

So, my favorite meals so far:
Off The wall - Chicken Salad Sandwich
Cultured Pelican - Stuffed Cornish Game Hen
Polly's at the Pier - Breakfast Burrito with Sausage + Ice Coffee
Breezes - Lobster Roll
Paradise Cafe - Sausage and onions sandwich
Good Spirits - Baby Back Ribs

Had a really great experience New Year's Eve at Savant. First time there and I was really impressed. Great service, and the food was delicious and very reasonably priced. I wish I could say the same about our meal at Good Spirits the next day. Roasted chicken and chicken tacos were very bland--couldn't hold a candle to the Chicken Shack. I hope they Improve because, as a resident of the Reef, I'd be there a lot.

The best thing on Good Spirits menu is the black bean and brisket chili - delicious!

went to Good Spirits and was not impressed. It is a sit down/quick service hybrid type of place but the prices reflect that of a formal sit down place. $25 per person including tip for meal and non-alcoholic drink was a bit high even for St. Croix. The food was good, but the BBQ wasn't to die for.

Went to Baccus recently. My partner's Wahoo tasted fishy and old, we sent it back and it was replaced by a fresher though not very good seafood pasta. My entree of Veal cutlets with proscuitto and fontina was insipid and lukewarm. Service was cold and rushed excepting in the delivery of what we ordered 45 minutes between appetizer and entree is in my opinion excessive. The meal would have been bad and my review scathing at any price but at the rates they charge I am now bitter and will tell EVERYONE I see how much I hate Baccus, they suck. It is the worst meal and experience I have had on STX. Their ads say,"it's all about the love", the love of money they make ripping off a gullible public. In short "Baccus I hate youand your BS condescending commercials, your demise is my ultimate goal!"
Phew!! Now that's off my chest!
We also went to Salud, fast becoming a favorite, consistently good, nice wines and service!!
We warn Dashi that they seem to be slipping, but they are still very good, but now sadly our 2nd C'sted area choice, c'mon Mike pick it up!!!

We think the only really good choice West, even with shaky service is Sand Castles, Beachside Cafe. Good menu and good value, plus the view and ambiance go a long way toward covering up flaws.

All told I think in that range Salud is #1 on island.

Oh and did i mention I hate Baccus!!!

Any news on the Columbus Cove restaurant space? Is Frankie still looking at it for Lobster Reef?

Bernie -- I'm fairly certain the Columbus Cove & Frankie thing is completely dead. The new owners or soon to be new owners wanted to him to come up with $500K, build a new building for the restaurant that is located closer to the beach. That isn't gonna happen. I guess they feel the current location of the old restaurant is not where they would like it. Frankie is currently cooking a few evening shifts a week at Bogies (Cane Bay Reef Club).

That's too bad. It seemed like a good spot for Lobster Reef if they couldn't stay in their old spot.

Wow heavyB, I have always had great food and service at Bacchus. That is my favorite restaurant on island.
Yeah, it's pricey but for a special occasion it is my absolute favorite.

I'll add to those singing the praises of No Bones Cafe. Just had a really nice dinner of grilled mahi and veg. Really tasty.

Ate for the first time at Elizabeths @ H20.

Food was decent enough, but over-priced compared to what we got, or could get elsewhere.
$120 per couple for 3 cocktails, 2 entrees, bottle of wine, one dessert, and a nice tip (service was excellent).
...which is probably why on a Saturday night you coulda shot a cannon through the place.
Wanted the grilled tuna, but waitress (thankfully) admitted it was 'frozen not fresh'.
Great location, though.

Seems odd that their menu is going for a fine dining angle (and prices) in a building and location that screams "beach rustic tiki"

Is Pizza Mare Closed? Haven't seen it open in a while. My Husband said he tried to go for lunch on Friday, but it was closed.

They are closed for good at the Welcome location. I've asked around and haven't gotten an answer to see if the Pizza Mare van is still around & where/when.

Another thumbs up for Rowdy Joe's. My wife and I stopped in on Sunday for dinner and to watch the first half of the NFL game. They had a flat screen set up on the porch for those of us who wanted to be outside. Big props for being so accommodating of special requests. My wife loves the fish tacos, but can't have them because they use flour tortillas and she is allergic to wheat. We asked what they could do, and they served them in the hard-shell corn tortillas instead--perfect! And their caprese salad is simply awesome, with that great homemade pesto.

Had an excellent meal at Galangal Friday night. Drinks, Wine, apps and curries were all top notch. And a very very cool atmosphere. Cool even by Stateside standards. Add this to my short list (which is now Galangal, Salud, Dashi, Cafe Christine).

Bad news on Pizza Mare. They were overpriced and service could be a bit of a problem but they were right near my house and the Curry Chicken Pizza was excellent (and unique). We have really very little quick food options east of town.

Anyone try the Mexican out at the Golden rail? Is it good ? Authenitc? Mex? Tex-Mex? Last good mexican (no offense to Lenny at Luncheria) was Margaritas with the noisy dumbwaiter where down home fish fry is and she sadly left long ago. God I miss her homemade Tamale's.

Can anyone confirm if Galangal is open on Tuesdays and, if so, would I need a reservation?

Also, anyone have their contact info? I can't find them anywhere on the Web.

Dos Gringos is no longer at the Golden Rail. Not sure why, but that's the word around here.

It was called something different at Golden Rail - not dos gringos. I went there a week ago and they had a HUGE (meaning the size, not the options) menu to look at. Maybe call the Rail and see?

I stopped by the Golden Rail one evening this past weekend for a drink and the owner said they no longer served Mexican food. I did look at their current menu and it consisted of three or four appetizers and four or five entrees (lobster, steak, a pasta dish...)
