Thanks for all of the comments, good as well as negitive. Expect a lot more of the BBQ in the very near future, big load of pork going in the smoker Friday night. The sides will remain the same with a little tweaking here and there. I would like to introduce our newest member of our staff ( Chef Wanda Lopez ). Wanda is a great person to work with and she will be a great addition. It didn't take this Hillbilly cook very long to realize I can't do everything I need to do and try to run a kitchen at the same time. I will be out front a lot more often and spend more time visiting with you. The shades on the West side are a priority. Thanks for the support. So far I have a great team to work with. It only gets better from here.

Chris--glad to hear you're finally open. I was a big fan of Lobster Reef (especially the location) and am looking forward to seeing what you've done with the place when I get back on island January 1.

Quick question about the menu: Will you have BBQ chicken? My wife and I are not red meat or pork eaters, but we love a good BBQ chicken. We're on the North Shore often and definitely will stop in frequently if you've got chicken.

Messages of a commercial nature whether direct or indirect are not allowed. This includes but is not limited to business owners/representatives using their business name as their author name, posting advertorial type comments, including contact information such as web address, email and telephone number in signatures and in messages when this information was not specifically requested, soliciting business from board participants directly on the message board or privately by email and private message, conducting customer service on the board (such as making reservations/appointments, notifications of actions like intentions to call or thank you messages). Posts that state "tell them I sent you" will be removed. Business professionals can participate and establish themselves as experts on a topic by responding with helpful answers. In doing so they may sign their name and note their professional business. Their posts should remain of a general nature and may not contain requests to be emailed for more information.

Honestly, the forum is restaurant ratings, not business partner chat or whatever. Fine. The word's out. Best of luck. But if you guys want to advertise, put some $ towards a radio ad or something.

mminstx, while in general I agree with you, in the case of abovethecliff, I think MOST of us are hoping to improve OUR quality of life by helping a new business meet OUR needs for good BBQ. So far, I think Chris has been toe-ing the line. If he starts advertising, then yeah.

While general "boilerplate" language governing message board advertising is a good thing, given the small community we have in the USVI, and the community's desire to support good businesses, some apparent conflict of interest is inevitable and tolerable.

What I do agree with is this: what they call "hijacking" of a thread or "going OT." A rating thread shouldn't go off topic so much.

Back on topic.... Will somebody PLEASE TELL FT CHRISTIAN BREW PUB to get Blackbeard Ale back on the menu ! ! How can you be out of your signature beverage -and substituting lesser quality brews, IMO.

Black Beard Ale is not a Brew Pub brand.
It's a bottled beer.

Whatever they call their standard Ale...they don't have it.
Out of Honey Wheat too.

I'm all for new attempts, but dangit, anticipating your favorite cold brew is half the fun.

Had breakfast at Golden Rail, next to St. Croix Marine in Gallows Bay STX the other day.
It was good.
Under new management, open 7 days a week.

We had breakfast at the Golden Rail today (we stopped going about a year ago when we had 3 bad meals in a row). It was good (I still miss Patrick), the service was decent and food was good. Glad they are back to being a decent place to go!

Saturday night we had dinner at Above the Cliff. I was very disappointed. They still have a few kinks to work out. The service was pleasant but very, very slow. My husband and a friend ordered a second drink when the first ones were delivered and still sat without something to drink for over 10 minutes after they finished the first before the next ones arrived. To me, that is an unacceptable level of service - if you thought ahead to order early you should not have to sit without a drink (and they did not "slam" the first drinks down). I was also very disappointed with the pulled pork - it was tasteless and extremely dry (even after pouring on the BBQ sauce provided). I did very much like the pineapple coleslaw and BBQ green beans. I ended up putting the coleslaw on the pork to make it moist enough to eat (not generally the way I like to eat pulled pork). I'll try again but it won't be for a few months until they have worked out the issues. On the plus side - the place looks tons better than it used to!

i had lunch at the Golden Rail yesterday. All of their prices went up. The lobster bisque changed - it's not the same recipe. The quesadilla was not very good either. Hopefully their breakfast is still good - they always made good pancakes and eggs benedict there.

Had dinner at Rowdy Joe's last night. It was great, as always! I had tacos, and I was sorry I gave my last one to my husband last night. I woke up this morning wanting one for breakfast!

We had planned to go to Above the Cliff's, but they were closed. What up, Chris?

The same chef is making the lobster bisque. It hasn't changed. I eat lunch there and have had the chicken quesedia twice now. It is so large I take it home for another meal.

Thanks Juanita,Gary and Jerry . It was after 1:00 am when I posted last. Long days in a hot kitchen will make an old man fast, even faster. It is coming a long rather well I think. Help is on the way and this will allow me to focus on the patrons who visit and of course my smoker . Everyone was very kind for our initial opening on Friday,it has only gotten better in a matter of days. We still have a very long way to go until I am personally satisfied with the level of service and attention to details I feel, our customers deserve. We will get there. We will be closed on Mondays until further notice.

I feel very fortunate to have found April,or she found Above the Cliff, what ever it was, all I can say is she rocks. Thanks again to everyone of you. Jumbie thanks for droping in. I'll be out front a lot more often in the future.

Chris

I think yesterday was Monday.

Sorry about that guys. We are closed on Mondays. I will get the sign that states that. Sorry for the inconvience. Just another of many small issues to correct. Be warned, pulled pork is off the menu until Friday . Any prior issues should be corrected by then. Thanks for the feed back and support.

Chris

Hi! I'm interested in finding out about Tavern1844. Is it a popular place? Does it seem like a pretty good Irish Pub? My husband and I are planning a move to St. Croix in the next couple of months and we are diehard Irish Pub people! In fact, we met in one ON St. Patty's Day. Anyway, would like to hear from the locals about this place if possible. Thanks! BTW, my handle should be reader30. I must have signed up in the dark! LOL!
