I have to agree Lizard. I am beginning to feel "uneducated" and stupid for responding or even reading this message board anymore. I stupidly let myself get baited into responding because I was so offended by the term breeder to describe someone who is uneducated or a detriment to society or a second class citizen. I hate the word. I had to take a minute to think it is just a word and I don't have to respond. I can walk away and ignore it.

Rotor, that article is right on. Change if any ever will happen in the VI will be a direct result of much better schools, teachers and education.
There needs to be an ongoing health class that teaches how to care for and manage one's body to stay healthy and be aware of birth control. Through this process in a generation or so there could be a paradigm shift away from promiscuity and having babies as a welfare incentive. Most kids that have a strong family will learn this stuff from their parents.
The the drop out rate needs to be dealt with, somehow. There are to many people with no skills. There needs to be effective drug use and abuse education. All this is so evident but totally ignored.
Now the VI is spending and borrowing us into a hole that will take decades to climb out of and what will suffer. Education and social programs. Every other state is downsizing and cutting back but not us because govt employess are the largest voting block and taking anything away from them is the 3rd rail of VI politics. And we keep buying new cars and SUVs,and everyone rides around in airconditioned comfort on our dime. Something like 90% of all the VI buget goes to salaries and benefits for govt employees that doesn't leave much for anything else especially when the debt comes due.
ok that's my vent

i actually got the term breeder from a group in minnesota called zero population growth composed of older straight women, so it had nothing to do with the fact that i'm gay,to procreate is to breed, i had the opportunity back in my 20's and thought long and hard about it but my brother already had it covered with 3 of his own so i never felt the need, alot of gay people want children of their own but most of them choose to adopt and take care of the ones already here,my friend and his partner adopted 3 boys about 3 months ago out in california, florida in all their hypocrisy will allow gay people to foster but not adopt

and africa and all those other places are ethnic and religious cleansing, thats hate and you know it,educating people on the need for practical birth control is needed in order for the population to survive over the long term, look at the food shortages already in the making, how many people starve to death daily on this planet, everyone talks about being "green" well overpopulation is the biggest thing conributing to the non greening, stripping the rainforests to plant more crops are not the answer, practical birth control and education are.

well it was good hope night at work tonight, nice to see the old regulars back on island after the summer and to see how much the kids have all grown, one of the ladies is a first time teacher here in the public schools and she had to take a vi history class to learn about the vi, she said the instructor was along the lines of adelbert and moorhead and said these island need to break away from the states and so she asked him what about all the millions the usa pours into these islands for social programs and infrastructure, how would you plan on replacing all that free money, well of course he had no answer and just ignored her from there on out

oh and on the 5pm radio news they said there was a major raid over in glynn with the locals, the fbi,the dea and they rattled off a couple more of the fed letter agencies, they said this place has been raided before and never been caught, but this time they set up a sting operation,so maybe the feds really are trying to help us this time

was just reading a thread on the travel side of the board, someone wanted people to describe in 3 words the different islands here, a a few of the posters referred to crime on stx, amazing to me because stt has had almost twice as many murders so far this year,be nice if people wised up,no offense to you STT'rs just a point.

First time in a year JJ and I have sat outside and watched the bats. They are so awesome. Diving after their prey. Where is the rain? One cistern went dry. I suspect another leak. Sigh. Another thing to fix. I guess I should have washed my car. That is the American rain dance. Wash your car and it will rain. Erica come back and bring us some rain.

Well I didn't wash my car but the rain came anyway. I have never seen so much rain on STX. Picking JJ up from school was an adventure dodging the lakes of standing water. I am glad we are back home.

Happy Labor Day weekend everyone.

Tam

really busy at work pretty much all day yesterday, the weather was bad so the ship people came into townand alot ofthe came in to eat with us which almost never happens because we're too far away from the boardwalk and then later we got busy with everyone else so i couldn't leave to go to the 4pm service for freddie,no one to cover the shift, i overheard 3 of the ship people telling the am waitress that stx is a pretty island but it really has some rundown areas and then they said that they thought there was an awful lot of white trash people here and i just thought to myself didn't you just get off of a ship with over 3000 people on it,alot of them were probably your fellow passengers, i meanreally how rude

my ride picks me up at about 6:05 am and right now it's still kinda dark out so when we're driving the north shore road we get around that last big curve when you see all of gentle winds and the sun is just starting to come up so we pull over and sit for about 5 minutes and watch the sun rise, just beautiful
