A tip for Googling: when you enter a search term, append the terms with -TERM to filter out results that contain the word TERM. For example, "Virgin Isalnds -tourism -vacation" will give you more results relevant to your quest. It seems there are more travel and vacation guides than anything else. Also, if you go to http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&tab=wn&ned=us&q=us+virgin+islands&btnG=Search+News you can get all the latest news from the USVI.
I created an alert to email me headlines for "US Virgin Islands" daily.
One last thing!!! You should buy AT LEAST one of the guides or books linked above. I have the "Virgin Islands Relocation & Newcomers Planning Kit" with a copy of the local newspaper on the way.

artifact, I had a difficult time finding quality videos that weren't only the water. I'm going to have a lot of exploring to do that I wouldn't normally do on vacation. I'm interested in neighborhoods, markets, people, etc...

I just found these YouTube videos on STX from "IslandHoppers" (I've never heard of them, but it sounds like they do low budget TV shows). Anyway, kind of a nice view of the islands... it's got a lot of surfer motif to it, but still kinda nice. I looked at all 7 parts... they all have something a little bit different.
