Hi my friend Felicity and I will be leaving for sunny St Thomas in a week before we go to St Croix for a rotation at JFL hospital. Has anyone got any tips on what to do whilst on STT? We need to know where there are any tacky souvenir shops (I'm thinking plastic tat!) for christmas prezzies to send home to our families!!! We're really looking forward to finally getting some sun as it seems like the rain you'd been having has now crossed the atlantic to old blighty! Many thanks in advance for peoples help.

Welcome Emma...

A fun an interesting shopping trip to Havensight might be what your asking for. Some shops have some much junk jammed in them, you only have trails to walk in. Everything from some of the most beautiful jewelry in the world (I think so anyway), to cheap plastic trinklets from overseas are in the complex.

Its also a great place to watch people, and when the cruise ships are in, crowded, but with an international flavor! Have fun and be safe. Don't forget to wheel and deal!

Thanks Andrew for your advice - have had plenty of practice at wheeling and dealing from living in the East End of London for the past 5 years (plus being blonde and flashing a big grin usually helps!!!). It is sooooo cold here but less than a week til I shall be thawing out on Sapphire beach and I'm starting to get really excited about my little adventure to the caribbean.

Emma,

You might visit Sapphire, Magens Bay, Secret Harbor... take a day trip via ferry ($3 each person each way from Red Hook) to St. John and spend a day there, hiking, beaching, shopping whatever... Havensight and Charlotte Amalie to shop and walk around the historical sights in CA. At night have a nice dinner at a few of the great restaurants... check out some nightlife...

Have a great time.

Emma,
Welcome to St Croix. I think you're going to like it here. My wife and I have lived here for a little over three months. The people here are fantastic. Everyone we have met make us feel very welcome. I hope your experience is as good as ours has been. If you have specific questions about STX, feel free to email.
