March 30, 2013 they receive one bid in the amount of $751,000.00 from Workship Contractors BV, base in the Netherlands. This is an $80,000,000.00 ferry paid by tax payer dollars.

Los Angelos County and the USVI are still being evaluated by the Federal Transit Administration for a gift.

If Alaska couldn't afford to maintain and fuel it, I don't know what makes anyone think that the VI can.

Alaska could certainly afford it. They just had no use for it and were paying the yearly maintenance and insurance to have it just sit. Upkeep funds were not the issue. That doesn't mean that the VI can afford it. It will take plenty of thought on how best to keep it useful. From what I have read on the other thread, PAX service doesn't sound so feasable. But cars and inter island freight service could be.

it was mostly the insurance that killed em, Alaska had the ferry for a long time, when I was up there grand idea's were floated for using it, but never panned out. so they paid for it to be "stored" for years before deciding to do this.

insurance is expected to be much lower down here.

Why would insurance be lower in the USVI?? Hurricane insurance alone will be a killer.
